V for Vendetta Essay The ideological battle throughout the novel is Fascism vs. Anarchy, but the true struggle lies much deeper. Personal accountability, happiness, and freedom are all at risk when the people of England become oppressed and deprived of their rights after the resettlement camps. In the graphic novel, V for Vendetta, Alan Moore illustrates a potential dystopian future in which civilians are oppressed and the guileful government is concealing all true horrors through the so called “voice of fate.” Moore’s message in the book seems to advocate the power of the people, as well as the power of one person and other people’s faith. “I shall die here. Every last inch of me shall perish. Except one. An inch. It's small and it's fragile and it's the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it, or sell it, or give it away. We must never let them take it from us." (160) While Evey, the protagonist in the novel, was locked in a cell after being kidnapped, she found a note in a small crevice written by a woman named Valerie who had also been captured and put in a cell. That note was the same note that encouraged V, who symbolizes both freedom and rebellion, to stay strong and hopeful during his days at the resettlement camp . The note told Evey to never forget who she was and to never allow anyone to take her freedom or dignity away.
Everyone deserves to have it and we must never let it go. V was searching for freedom in this dystopian novel, and he ultimately accomplished it, one way or another. Moore proved that it only takes one person to stand up for their beliefs, in order to create change. V was unsatisfied with the way the government controlled society so he decided to rebel against them. Not only for revenge, but also to help the people of London.
