I am currently studying applied sciences at college and this course has provided me with an insight into the fundamentals of science. The unit that I have found particularly fascinating is the Physiology of the Human Body System. I was interested in how each specific area plays a distinct role in the body and how certain body parts are interlinked with each other - a typical example of this being the skeletal system. When learning about radioactivity in physics I found it captivating how specific …show more content…
During my placement, I worked in a range of different areas in the radiology department including main X-ray, A&E, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, MRI and CT. This gave me an excellent insight into the day-to-day functioning of the department and the role of a radiographer. I found that one key aspect was the importance of being able to communicate with patients effectively. On a number of occasions, there was a language barrier with some patients and consequently a simple scan took much longer than usual. I believe that I possess excellent inter-personal skills and am able to communicate with people of all backgrounds. I am also multi-lingual and this would aid me in having better communication with patients whose first language is not English. I spent a full day working in the A&E department where I learnt about the various accidents and traumas that the radiographers have to deal with on regular basis. My supervisor explained the important role the radiographers have in the process of diagnosing
