Radiologic Technologist Personal Statement
I can still remember countless nights sitting with my parents at the dining room table long past my scheduled bedtime, trying to understand my homework. As a middle child and the only girl in my family, I would always look at my brothers with jealously. They always seemed to quickly understand their school work, effortlessly complete homework and obtain impeccable scores on tests. I always felt that I needed to study harder, study longer and struggle to grasp concepts that seemed easy for others to understand. Although I did not see the positive in this situation at the time, as I have aged, attended college, and established my career as a successful Radiologic Technologist and Clinical Manager, I realize my past experiences and struggles shaped me into the …show more content…
I remember the day I called my Dad crying to tell him the wonderful news. I told him that “I have been accepted into the rigorous Radiology program and opportunities like that do not typically happen to me”. At that moment, I felt like I could achieve anything. After graduating the program, my confidence continued to grow. I obtained my first job straight out of College at OrthoIndy as the only working Technologist in this particular clinic which was a huge challenge for a new graduate. Being the only Technologist at this clinic meant I had nobody to lean on for advice; however, as time went on, I quickly realized that I knew what I was doing! I realized that I had gained an immense amount of knowledge in school and I was able to apply that knowledge to my career. It was at this point, that I began to truly appreciate my program educators and how much of an impact they had on my future. I felt that they had taught me exactly what I needed to be successful! I began to use my knowledge to educate other clinic staff in my office. I shared my knowledge of radiology best practices and radiation safety every chance I could. I also become more confident in

I have chosen this career path for the patients. I have chosen this career because it is two paths that I can switch back and forth from, cardiac and pregnancy. I can go to school for Diagnostic Medical Sonography, then at the end of my four years, I can either go into cardiac sonography or pregnancy sonography. I could also be on a rotation so I will be able to do both things that I would enjoy. Being able to take this career path will give me confidence that I can do something that has never been done in my family. My mom and stepdad, stepmom and dad, have never been to college. So completely college and going into a career that I want to pursue means a lot. I am so ecstatic to show my mom she did raise me right. My mom and Stepdad are my…

Dr.Seuss once said the word, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.” The challenges I face while pressuring my dream of becoming a radiologist are similar to odysseus's journey. There is a good chance I will have to face these three challenges: acceptance, separation, and financial stability. Theses obstacles will be hard to overcome, however, I believe I can persevere through them the same way odysseus did.…

Vince Lombardi once said, "The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand." I admire the words written here and try to apply them in my everyday life. Now that I am part of the Pasadena City College Radiology Program I find these words more important than ever. The only thing that is not fitting about this quote is that when I put my mind to something, as though I have for school, and someone else is depending on my actions, I will not lose. Not only will my patients rely on me to provide them with the best care possible but also I will someday have a family that relies on my success in the field. This being said, even though I'm only a handful of months in I've dedicated my self to this program by setting personal goals, some of which I've already achieved and some of which I've yet to achieve but have made a promise to myself to accomplish.…

Therese Sorey, the Irvine Teachers Association president, claims that parents should help their children and says, “By being involved, parents can demonstrate to their kids that school is important, that they want their kids to achieve, that the recognize learning is difficult, and that sometimes they can help” (para 4). The point Sorey is trying to make is that by parents helping their children, that will show the child that their loved ones understand their dilemma. It also portrays that by helping them, and teaching them what to do, children will be inspired to do better. However, there is a negative effect by parents helping their kids with their homework;“When they [students] go to college they need to know how to study and problem-solve on their own, and their parent won’t be there to help them” (Christina Sotelo Benson, para 5). The point being made here is that if children recieve an ample amount of help from their parents, the students may not be able to easily do their homework in the future. Homework is given by teachers to provide as preparation for high school and college. To sum up, parents should not interfere with their child’s homework because it will later lead to a lack of…

I belong to a community that praises hard work and intellect, always striving to earn a better life. This community is the first generation immigrant community. Since I am the oldest sibling, I am designated in the unique role in my family as a cultural advisor to American life, an overachieving role model to my younger brother, and the face of my parents’ source of pride. I view my situation not as an impediment, but as a catalyst for my business and public service aspirations in the future. Education has always been stressed even when I was in elementary school. I would spend all evening working on supplementary reading problems and critical thinking math problems, assuming that this was what my American peers did when they got home. I have…

As the oldest and first generation Russian- American daughter of two humble immigrants, with limited knowledge of American schools and there system and what they teach in school , homework had been my greatest obstacle. My parents were able to teach me the basics. Such as numbers and letters, how to add and subtract, multiply and divide but anything after the few years of basics, I was left to figure out anything else on my own. Sure they tried but it wasn’t what they grew up learning. My father was a drop out because it was hard holding up a family farm without any hands helping so he couldn’t help me and my mother and I never had a good relationship, so a wasn’t able to come up to her and ask her to help. It was a dreary day in October when Mom asked if Kaley, my older sister, and I would want to come with her to a sonogram. My mom was eight months pregnant at the time. Kaley and I have talked about this for awhile now, and we got the chance. The next day, Kaley and I left school around nine o’clock and checked out. We got in Kaley’s truck and drove up to the hospital. As we were walking in the doors, we saw mom waiting for us. She looked so happy. All of the nurses were really nice and said hello to us. Mom, Kaley, and I sat in a waiting room for about half an hour before the radiologist came out and told mom to come on in. Mom introduced Kaley and I to the lady, and then she asked if either of us were interested in radiology. At the time, I didn’t know anything about it. Walking into the small room with one bed, I saw the machine that showed the sonograms. I was awed at the sight of it all. I took a seat right next to mom. The lady started the procedure with the gel and pulled her tools out. I sat there so amazed by it all. I had never experienced anything like this. I couldn’t keep my eye off the monitor. I imagined if I grew up to be a radiologist. I could help people. I wouldn’t mind it because I would not have to deal with blood or internal parts of the body. The next week mom went back to get another sonogram, and I begged her to let me go. She said sorry, she couldn’t. When I got home from school that day, Mom told me that the radiologist in at the hospital said that she’d love for me to come job shadow…

Therefore, I decide that I had to work twice or three times as much as other kids in my grade just to earn a decent grade.
