Why Did Grendel's Time To Find A Meadhall To Loot?

The travelers and Grendel set out that hour to find a meadhall to loot. They could not raid Herot again, lest they be caught. They found their meadhall in the next town over, and swept in and swiftly took all of the gold and precious metals. Grendel distracted the people in the hall by smashing tables, roaring curses and throwing casks of wine on the floor, while Hagelin, Hjalmarsson, and Rask collected the gold. They repeated this pattern for eighty seven days, every night taking their loot back to Grendel’s cave for safekeeping. They were soon the most famous bandits in the land, and all had a large bounty placed on their heads. All knew that they could not go on like this forever. Sooner or later they were bound to get caught, or someone would get greedy, or one day they would not make it out of the meadhall alive. Little did they know that that day would come so soon.

Grendel and the other three ran out the back door, but the mob caught up to them and took them to Herot. Grendel felt quite hopeless as Hrothgar, being the king of the first meadhall that Grendel robbed, decided that the looters would be put in jail for a night before the being executed by stoning.
