“ONE MORE!!”
“ALL YOU, YOU GOT THIS!!”
When you think of weight training intensity does someone yelling phrases like those come to mind?
Well if it does then you are partly correct, but what does weight training intensity actually mean?
Following the thread of the last two articles ive done dealing with creating your own workout plan and defining training volume, today we’ll look at what training intensity is and how to apply it.
WHAT IS INTENSITY IN WEIGHT TRAINING
From my research ive found that training intensity meaning is actually two parts: load intensity and effort intensity.
Lets start with load intensity. Load intensity refers to the technical part, and it is a percent of your 1 rep max (1RM) for …show more content…
Weight training intensity load is relative because you and your best friend might not have the same 1RM for an exercise, making your 80% for lets say bench press different from your best friends.
Even if your best friend and you did happen to have the same 1RM the number of reps you would be able to complete for a given percent would be different.
We’ve covered load intensity so far, next we’ll look at effort intensity.
Effort intensity is what most people think of when they hear the word intensity.
Effort intensity in weight training is how much energy you put into an exercise, or for lack of a better word, how much effort you put in.
You should always be giving 100% effort in your workouts!
HOW TO APPLY WEIGHT TRAINING INTENSITY
Lets begin with effort intensity this time.
Finding effort intensity in weight training is easy, but unique for everyone.
To find effort intensity you can use Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE). RPE is simply using a 1-10 scale, with 1 being very easy and 10 very difficult, to rate how much effort you used in an exercise or
