The reading experience: keeping it traditional or going beyond?
The experience of reading a book can vary depending the reader. Many people find it a learning activity, others find it a way to escape from their real world. There is a lot of debate surrounding electronic books or e-books, in regard to if they will ever replace real books as the conventional way to digest writer’s works. Although humans are creatures of habit, recently electronic books have become more reachable and popular than traditional books, and because of the comfort, price, and features, will eventually become the preferred choice. One of the reasons that have helped the rising of e-books is the comfort. Traditional printed books are heavy and cumbersome. Often it is hard for them to stay open on their own and readers have to fidget with them to get comfortable. Also, when reading an e-book readers can adjust the brightness of the screen they are using, which implies that will not have to turn lights on if they want to read at night. Other comfortable feature is that Electronic books allow people to mark relevant quotes without harming the book’s integrity and by just using fingers gently. As one might expect, economical reasons have also led the popularity of e-books. Traditionally, printed copies of famous writer’s works are expensive. This is justifiable because making a book implies many processes and the use of different materials. This cost is reflected in the price, and the fact that many authors find their way of living by writing books adds certain amount of money to the book’s tag. Because of this, certain publications are only being offered as e-books and with the increasing cost of physical resources like paper and gasoline, this option is more profitable.
