Course Description:
This course is an introduction to decision making encountered in business and everyday life. The course covers selected tools in probability, statistics, economics, operations research, and operations management. We will apply these tools and principles to problems in financial management, marketing, operations, supply chain management, and quality management. We will also look at risk management in decision making and ethics in decision making.

Required Class Materials:
1. Text Book – Schaum’s Outline; Operations Management – Decision Making in Business 2. Decision Making in Operations Management, Walden, 2014
3. Class lecture notes and slides – posted to Blackboard
4. Case studies provided in class.

Course Requirements:
Homework (10 assignments, 20 points each) 200 points
Quizzes (10 quizzes, 20 points each) 200 points
Exam I 200 points
Exam II 200 points
Exam III200 points
Optional Final Exam 225 points
Total 1000 points

Grading Scale: The following grading scale will be used to determine the final grades. A: 930 and above
A-: 900-929
B+: 880-899
B: 830-879
B-: 800-829
C+: 770-799
C: 730-769
C-: 700-729
D: 650-699
F: There will be 10 quizzes throughout the semester. The quizzes will be closed book and closed notes and will be individual efforts – no help from other students. The quizzes may cover any material previously, and sometimes currently, covered in class, in homework and/or in the readings assigned. The quizzes can be given anytime during the class and will take approximately 5 – 10 minutes. There will be no advance warning of a quiz and no make-up quizzes unless arrangements are made prior to class. 25% of the quiz grade will be allocated for attendance. So even if you cannot answer the question, you will collect 5 points for attending the class and following the quiz procedure (as listed below).
