Reflective Report In Coaching
Coaching Sessions
Conducting the coaching session made me reflect on my perception of things and how I could improve for next time. The following questions were the focus of all three coaching sessions:
• How effective do you think you were as a coach?
• What specific strategies did you use?
• What lessons have you learned serving as a coach?
• What worked?
• What do you plan to do differently during your next coaching session, if anything?
These questions served as the basis of the coaching model and helped to reflect how to improve and ask deeper questions.

Topics discussed by the client were related to interpersonal conflicts, personality issues and pressure at work. The client projected similar issues related to their responsibilities, professionalism and peer expectations. The client went into deep reflection on new curriculum that they are implementing and are not meeting and her frustration that there is no guidance or background regarding the new curriculum. Areas of concern and frustration for the client were principal trying to shine at the district offices without taking into account the daily classroom routine and jumping into the next new thing without considering how this would affect staff and the …show more content…
This allowed me to be prepared and guide the conversation to ensure the client reflects and go deeper into the issue to find they why.
Reflection
After conduction all three sessions I realized that being a coach is difficult and one has to be prepared for any eventuality. By this I mean that I need to know my client and prepare for every session to make the client think and process issues in a depth and make the session meaningful. Every time I thought I was prepared I realized after the session that I was not. I thought the conversation would go one way and it would go another. The more I thought and prepare on how to assist my client it was never enough. I did feel that after each conversation the client felt better and had a plan.
When I became the client I did feel better with more direction after reflecting on the issues we discussed. My coach asked questions that allowed me to reflect and think about how I see and handle certain situations. For example, some issues I had at my job site I had no control over and I had to learn of a way to let go, working on

The book is split into six sections, all filled with sample questions that are designed to strengthen the asking skills of a coach. In addition, each section offers additional resources, tips, or hints that offers the coach an opportunity to delve deeper. The book starts off with an introductory chapter explaining the importance of strong asking skills, how to fix common mistakes, and gives sample questions a coach can use to help build a strong coaching relationship with clients (Stoltzfus, 2008). The second section gives a brief overview of the coaching process, sample questions that help structure the coaching conversation, and details two conversational models: GROW and the Coaching Funnel (Stoltzfus, 2008).     One of the most important qualities of a counsellor is the ability to listen, meaning that the counsellor must be fully present in the session. The counsellor needs to put aside his or hers own matters and thoughts to be fully present and available as it is impossible to help someone if you are not actively listening. It is important to be listening not only to what is being said but also sometimes to what is being avoided but maybe being felt. When you listen actively it can help make the client feel worthy, appreciated and respected. This could be the first time they have actually been listened to. It is so important that you listen with undivided attention. During a role-play at college I had to listen without speaking for a full ten minutes to the client. I found this exercise very useful and even surprised myself because I was so aware of concentrating on what the client was saying and was so interested in what was being said that I did not feel uncomfortable in not speaking. Even in the few short silences I felt at ease and could appreciate that this silence can be a part of the interaction between the counsellor and the client and I recognised how the silence may help the client to focus. It is vital not to jump in during these silences, as they can be helpful in allowing the client to think and reflect. The counsellor may be able to help them by inviting them to talk about what was going on for them, rather than starting a new topic. It is more helpful for the client to ask ‘what…
