reasons why i want to be an exchange student
I would like to be one of the exchange students because I want to travel to another country. But besides that, I want to develop myself. By being an exchange student, I believe I will confront with challenges that I never faced before; adapting in a new place, new environment, new culture, and new friends. It seems utterly frightening but I believe by all these difficulties, it can teach me countless lessons of life. I also want to develop my communication skills. I am a very shy person, hence I hope that I can break my shy-shell when I become an exchange student. Other than that, I also want to improve my English speaking skills. As I always being surrounded by my Malay friends, the probability for me to speak in English is too low because I think that I have Malay language to talk to them. But if I am around foreigners, I have to talk in English no matter what because English is an international language. I think this will improve my speaking and also my level of confidence. Besides, it also can give me greater awareness of my own national identity. It also will allow me to widen my perspective and become self-sufficient. By being an exchange student I will meet new friends from all around the world. It is incredible to see hordes of people from numerous foreign regions interacting with one another, forming friendships and promoting cultural understanding. I can build of my interpersonal skills that will help me greatly in the future as I can communicate easily with anyone. I seek to join Teach For America for many reasons. One of the most prominent reasons I wish to join this organization is to give back to my community and communities similar to it. Being raised in inner-city Cleveland, I have seen many teachers come and go, and very few of those teachers were raised in the inner-city. Since I was raised in the inner-city, I feel as if I have a better understanding of the struggles that my students may have, and will be able to give them advice that I wish that I had at their age.…

While most high school juniors spend their year studying, excelling in sports, hanging out with friends, and thinking about colleges, I pushed my boundaries and embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. No, I did not go skydiving or join the US National Volleyball Team. I accepted the challenge of the Congress Bundestag Scholarship program to spend a year in Germany living, learning, and experiencing life in another land. There have always been various matters of concern in our modern society, and one topical issue is studying abroad. According to Scott (1998), studying overseas has become a global trend, especially in English – speaking countries. As a matter of fact, when people’s standards of living improve, they often think about increasing their knowledge so they could have a better life. To do that, they are eager to study for higher education (i.e: university education) overseas. However, everything has its advantages and disadvantages, and studying abroad is not an exception. To my way of thinking, the advantages of studying abroad far outweigh the disadvantages. This essay is divided into 3 parts. The first part will discuss the academic benefits, and then introduce the effects of studying abroad for interpersonal development; the latter will describe future job opportunities of studying abroad.…

    Exchange

Exchange is change. Rapid, brutal, beautiful, hurtful, colorful, amazing, unexpected, overwhelming and most of all constant change. Change in lifestyle, country, language, friends, parents, houses, school, simply everything. Exchange is learning to trust. Trust people, who, at first, are only names on a piece of paper, trust that they want the best for you, that they care. Trust, that you have the strength to endure a year on your own, endure a year of being apart from everything that mattered to you before. Trust that you will have friends. Trust that everything’s going to be alright. And it is seeing this trust being justified. Exchange is thinking. All the time. About everything. Thinking about those strange costumes, the strange food, the strange language. About why you’re here and not back home. About how it’s going to be like once you come back home. How that boy is going to react when you see him again. About who’s hanging out where this weekend. At first who’s inviting you at all. And in the end where you’re supposed to go, when you’re invited to ten different things. About how everybody at home is doing. Exchange is people. Those incredibly strange people, who look at you like you’re an alien. Those people who are too afraid to talk to you. And those people who actually talk to you. Those people who know your name, even though you have never met them. Those people, who tell you who to stay away from. Those people who talk about you behind your back, those people who make fun of your country. All those people, who aren’t worth your giving a damn. Those people you ignore. And those people who invite you to their homes. Who keep you sane. Who become your friends. Exchange is great. It’s feeling the connection between you and your hostparents grow. It’s meeting people from all over the world. It’s cooking food from your home country and not messing up. Exchange is exchange students. The most amazing people in the whole wide world. Those people from everywhere…
