Furthermore, they can gain more experience and broad-minded because of this qualified education.

For example, if someone studies in China, they will be forced to speak Chinese (Mandarin) every time and everywhere. Students can speak more than one language which is their advantage when they come back to their country and applying for a job. Ideally, if they used worldwide language such as English, Chinese and Arabic, they will be a treasure for any company’s head-hunter.
However, “Every coin has its two sides”. Studying abroad has some potential downsides, for instance cultural shock, the homesickness, cultural differences and so on. One of the disadvantages is that it is quite expensive. Students will spend much money that comes from living fee, college tuition, extra

Have you ever dreamed of studying in other countries, traveling to cool places, meeting lots of different people, and picking up a language or two? In recent years, studying abroad has been popular as the world becomes globalization. A record said that "241,791 U.S. students went abroad for academic credit in 2006-07, up 8% from the previous year, and nearly 150% more than a decade earlier" (you can check it here). More and more students leave their own country to go abroad for their further education. They say that they can develop better with advanced facilities and teaching methods in those modern schools. By communicating with foreign students or staying a long time with them, a profitable experience is available to them. By the time they come back home, they are supposed to have a great advantage over the students at home in many ways. I quite agree with what they say. But as also an overseas student, one fact I would like to remind them of is that quite a number of overseas students stay abroad disappointed as they can not obtain what they hope for, let alone success. When they are abroad, they are helpless and have to be independent (I had exactly the same situation), which is quite contrary to what it is at home. They lack independence; they can not even tell right and wrong apart, and as a result some of them even commit crimes. Therefore, whether it is good or not to study abroad depends on the individual. So take more factors into careful consideration.…

It is obvious that the problems, which overseas students face, are diverse. In the first place, the overseas students will face a problem that they have no place to live after they leave an airport. If you study abroad, you will study using a foreign language, which will be quite different from studying in your native language. You will study with friends from that country, and in many cases, you will study with friends from other countries as well, since many large universities abroad have many foreign students. Studying itself may be different. You may be required to read a lot; you will probably be expected to participate in discussions or/and make presentations in class; you may learn through doing something rather than just by reading and memorizing; you may need to write reports or do projects. In other words, you can expect something different in your learning experience, which you might find meaningful.…

However, this is an assumption. According to Cleary’s article, there are indeed glaring disadvantages to studying abroad. Firstly, the cost of pursuing higher education overseas is very high. In Australia, the cost alone for an undergraduate degree for international students range from $15k-$30k annually as compared to its fees for local students at $7k-$10k. This is not even including the cost of living the student would incur overseas. The significantly higher fees for international students is definitely a huge factor of how studying abroad may not be the ideal choice for everyone. Furthermore, governments and institutions are starting to implement policies to ensure that local universities still appeal to their locals. This can be seen by student exchange programmes set up where students get to experience education in a different country for one or two semesters while still paying local university fees. Also, most governments subsidise their local students, like in Australia, where the government has schemes called “Higher Education Loan Programme” and “Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support”, which gives out loans to local students and offer subsidies from the government…

Studying abroad has great pros. To begin with, students have an amazing opportunity to have better education. When we compare our education system with that of highly developed countries, there will be a vast amount of difference in the way students are educated. Studying abroad helps us learn the newest technologies and more advanced knowledge which is a far cry from the academic knowledge that Vietnamese students are taught. Moreover, we’re given a wonderful chance to improve our language. Nothing is better than learning language with the native speakers and using what we’ve learned to talk to them. Secondly, as we’ve been equipped with valuable knowledge, we’ll have a better degree and enlarge on our job opportunities. When we apply for a job, our degree will gain us greater advantages than the others. The third pro is that students can develop social skills. We can be independent because our family won’t be around to tell us what to do and eventually, we’ll learn to take care of ourselves. In addition, we are more confident and we can make friends easily. Last but not least, studying abroad opens to us an abundant world of cultures and languages. This might be the best experience one can have in his life time and studying abroad paves way for it.…
