Primary And Secondary Sources In The Civil War
The main difference between a primary and secondary source is where the content of the source comes from. Primary sources are firsthand experience with the topic at the time. They are evidence that describes the situation as it happened. Secondary sources are sources that describe primary sources. These sources analyze the content that is found in a primary source. In this essay, the primary source would be the “Gettysburg Address.” Former President Abraham Lincoln wrote the speech in November of 1863 at the time the civil war was happening and gave a firsthand insight of the way the war was affecting the entire country including himself. “A War that Never Goes Away” on the other hand would represent a secondary source.
