Office Romance and Policies
Workplace romantic relationships can do blossom in any social environment. And the very places where we work, unconventional it may be, is no exception. In fact, it has been the venue for those who want to find love. I have witnessed such in the firm that I am with now where such events of dating on the job of my colleagues had been on-going for some time, which eventually led most of those involved to long term relationships and marriages with our fellow employees.
Upon reflection, we are spending about a third or more of our time at work, the possibility of finding a prospective life partner is very high. In addition, we cannot deny that age, gender, the social environment that we have now, and the climate of the corporate culture itself could foster for the development of what we call office romance. Even though of the work setting in the company is conservative, however, the fast-paced environment and the higher number of young professionals combined with the greater number of the male populace may seem to contribute to this growing number of office relationships. The company have recognized this phenomenon but have strictly required the workforce to follow business ethics and employees conduct must conduct themselves professionally during work hours.
I believe that we cannot prevent office romances from happening. However, there must be clear distinctions of the corporate culture on the conduct of the employees between the social environments. This can significantly prevent negative results such as distraction from work, breach of confidentiality, occurrence of favouritism, low morale of the employee, ruined company image and professional reputation of those involved a due to misbehaviour, sexual harassment cases or any forms of lawsuits later on.

RATIONALE:
The Company aims to promote a productive and professional work environment and does not tolerate verbal or physical conduct by any employee that harasses, disrupts, or interferes with another’s
