I assist the Managing Director of the organisation I work for, who has taken over the management of the drawing office department. We are currently in the process of implementing a new database that caters for 3D drawings. As one of the employees who works in the drawing office has been with the organisation for many years, working in the same department they don’t like change. The leadership style I would use in this situation is- AUTHORATIVE. I would choose this style because in this situation the decision to change the system has already been made and I would rely on the threat of negative consequences to ensure compliance. I would tell them exactly what is going to happen but giving them reasons and benefits of doing what I say. The lowest level on the hierarchy is ‘Biological and Physiological needs’, this includes – air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep etc. (the basic needs for human survival) Maslow's theory suggests that the most basic level of needs must be met before the individual will focus motivation upon the secondary or higher level needs. For example; People are motivated to work to put a roof over their heads and to put food on the table. With their basic needs satisfied they can then motivate themselves for the secondary or higher level of needs, the needs then become more

A leadership style normally depends on the leader’s personality for example if someone is more reserved they may prefer to shy away from direct face to face communication and prefer to communicate through emails, or other forms of written communication. Rather than addressing a group as a whole the reserved leader is probably more comfortable meeting with subordinates on a one to one basis to provide individual direction. Someone who is outgoing and assertive may prefer to have direct communication with someone for example face to face, confrontation and group discussions. The factors will also be influenced by others within the group. One of the group may be generally outgoing or outspoken which may cause others to be more reserved than they normally would. This could have a negative impact on the group as it may stop people speaking out and giving their feedback or…

There are several factors that will influence the choice of leadership styles and behaviours in workplace situations, some of the factors may develop naturally through ones personality and others are the product of the leaders environment. One factor is the leaders own personality as their leadership style becomes an extension of who they are. For example; leaders with dominating personalities are more likely to dominate their team rather than be part of said team. The level of control a leader wishes to maintain over their team also influences their leadership style, as some may delegate work to others, but others feel the need to be involved in every aspect of day to day work therefore increasing their workload and often not utilizing their team to the best of its ability. Another factor which can influence leadership style is the organizational structure and operating methods, as they may dictate the leadership style that the managers must adopt as their own. A leaders experience also affects their choice of leadership style because managers without a lot of experience may feel the need to lead ‘by the book’ as it where rather than use their own style for fear of making mistakes. Other factors that will affect choice of leadership styles or behaviours in workplace situations are new teams entering the workplace as this changes the dynamics of the already established teams,…
