Topic: My Favourite Book

Of all my magnificent reading books, “ Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever” is my favourite. This book is about a kid named Greg Heffley who is in big trouble; school property has been damaged and Greg is the prime suspect. The crazy thing is that he is innocent; or kind of. A surprize blizzard hits and the Heffley family is trapped indoors with no electricity and no food; or so they thought. But Greg knows that when the snow melts he is going to have to face the music -give an explanation. This book had some funny parts which I loved. For example, when Manny (Greg’s little brother) got upset because someone hung his favourite ornament , the candy cane, on the Christmas tree. Their mom took the candy off the tree and gave it back to Manny. But Manny was upset because he had wanted his candy to have been the first one on the tree. Another funny part was when Greg got the title of “Student of the Week” and was awarded a bumper sticker. He asked his Dad if he could stick it on his new car but his Dad retorted that he did “ not want any junk on his car”, and gave the sticker to Manny so he could put it on his tricycle or something. Instead Manny stuck it on the driver’s side of their Dad’s new car without his father’s knowledge. I like this book because I loved the way the author, Jeff Kinney introduces intrigue in the plot. It turns out that when the Heffley family lost electricity and had no food it was the work of Greg’s little brother, 3 year old Manny who had deliberately turned off the main switches to every room in the house except his. Manny had done this because no one would teach him how to tie his shoes. The book was so interesting that I was forced to read it a third

I had always been told this book was incredible and I never read it because it just didn't seem like my type of book, but this course gave me the opportunity to read this book and really reflect on it. I suppose there are many different ways that I could use this book in both my personal and professional life. All of the different things going on in this book really helped me to notice some of the signs that children who suffer from abuse and neglect will often show. Children coming to school in smelly clothes, having random bruises appearing each week, looks of malnourishment, change of bruise stories, etc. are all tell-tale signs that maybe there's a bigger issue going on in the home than meets the eye. I have a passion for Social Work and working with children and adults who have been affected by alcohol and substance abuse is where I want to spend most of my time, so this book really hit me in my emotions and pulled at my heart strings. This book has opened up my eyes to see the cruelty that we face in this world and that nobody is safe, not even a small child. If nothing else, this book at least has made me want to be nicer to children and to make sure I can identify signs of abuse and neglect in children. This book makes me so much more excited to be a helper after reading it because I'm going to strive to get victims of this severe abuse out of the home and into a safe area. Also, this book makes…

In this nonfiction book based in the years of World War 2, the tragedy that happened to Finny during a summer at Devon set the topic for the story about the novel. During a summer at Devon Finny’s best friend, Gene, who is thoughtful and intelligent and had also developed a love-hate relationship with Finny, made a decision that would end in the death of Finny. They day when Leper, Gene, and Finny were all jumping off a tree at the Devon River there was a serious accident. When Gene and Finny were on a branch in the tree Gene spasmodically decided to shake the branch in order for Finny for all off, although Gene would never admit this to be true. Finny broken his leg and was practically crippled. This “accident” came to be the main aspect of A Separate Peace. Directly after the accident Brinker was interested in what actually happened that day at the river since it was accepted that Finny just fell off. One day when Gene was alone in his form room Brinker and his friends forced Gene down to the butt room, a room where smoking was allowed. Brinker further investigated that day during the summer by interrogating Gene. Gene felt uncomfortable so he fled. As he returned to his room he saw a very familiar face, it belonged to Finny. Finny had returned from resting at his house after the accident. Life went on and Finny continued to be the leader he was born to be, he instigated a snow ball war and school carnival. Towards the end of the boys’ final year in high school, Brinker gathered all the seniors in order to find the truth of that summer day. Slowly but surely Finny began to remember more and more of that day. What finally set him off to realize what Gene did was the return of Leper. Leper enlisted and went out to the war but began seeing things so people thought he was delusional,…

The book was very engaging and entertaining to read, but in some parts of the were unnecessary. Like at this one scene how Billy told his dad that Little Ann is “gun shy” but during the championship, Billy’s father brought a gun and it never mentioned about Little Ann being gun shy. But this book gives kids a great role model to look up and I recommend it to children from the age 8+ to read it.…

An easy chapter book like a picture book is a category of children’s books. Categorizing children’s books makes it easier for parents and educators to choose age-appropriate reading material for children. The stories are short in length and they are simple. In Barbara Park’s story June B. “Jones First Grader at Last”, she asserts that all children go through similar difficulties when making and losing friends. Parks supports her claims about children’s habits by having the reader jump into the life of the first grader known as Junie B. Jones. Another similar story that takes place in the life of a child is a story called “The Case of Hermie the Missing Hamster” by James Preller. The main character whose name is Theodore Jones…

The main idea of the book is that any kid can fit in in any situation. All you have to do is be yourself and you will make friends. When Junior goes to his new school at first he tries to be like them but he realizes that he can’t be and he makes friends by being funny and playing basketball real good. He gets respect for fighting. Also if bad things happen to you things will be OK after a while. For example in the book his dog dies and also his grandmother, his sister and his dad’s friend dies. Even though he gets real sad from going to all the funerals he just keeps going. He even laughs in the car when his sister dies. That shows no matter what you can keep going even if people in your life…

In conclusion, this memoir really touched me. It has its funny moments and it also has its sad moments. Kinship is a great part of the novel because if it weren’t for kinship, none of the gangbangers would’ve gotten along in the first place. Father Greg Boyle makes a good decision in making Homeboys Industries and creating kinship between gangbangers who decide to change their…

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw is the third book in the series. The book starts with a New Year and Greg talks about how members of his family are coming up with new-year resolutions but aren't able to stick to them. Later on in the chapter One of Greg's classmates, Albert Sandy told everyone at lunch about a person who could jump six feet straight up in the air and all he did was dig a three-inches hole and kept jumping out of it for a hundred times and then doubled the size of it and kept jumping, Greg believed him and thought of digging a hole, but Susan won't let him, so he went over to Rowley's and told him about it, but Rowley said his parents will ground him if they found the hole, but Greg said they could cover it up with a sheet so they will not find about it until a long time. The ground was frozen solid and they hardly made a dent, after digging for a few minutes Greg gave the shovel to Rowley and made him do for extra time to make him think he was a heavy contributor.
