LGBT
Assignment 2

I believe the LGBT community as a whole has made the most significant gains in the last 20 years. This can be proven with such facts as that in 1993 the all famous “Don’t ask don’t tell” policy was enforced, this permitted gays to serve in the military but banning homosexual activity. From 2004-2006 Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Connecticut all legalized all civil-unions. More recently, in 2012, both Washington and Maryland approved same-sex marriages. All of these points are all crucial to the development of the LGBT itself. This is why they have the most tremendous gains, especially in the last 20 years. While the fewest belongs to the improvements to citizen of the US with Asian descent. The issue with the citizens from Asian descent is not as pressing as it was in the past. The only highlight for this group was all the way in 1952 when foreign-born Asians were just given the right to become citizens of the United States. Some possible options for members of Asian descent is to incorporate themselves more in today’s society whether that be political, or in the entertainment industry. If they are able to do this, it will show that they are strong and have the opportunity to excel in things. This will showcase their abilities, thus, allowing greater acceptance from Americans. Though this is not an extremely pressing issue currently, it is still significant to some and should be treated with the upmost respect. If Asian descendants are able to do these things, their lives and their children’s life will be more prosperous than ever before.

When we look back at the way GLBT was looked at it was just as bad as African Americans was looked at. Just like African Americans the GLBT community was subject to discrimination and prejudice. They had to hide who they truly were. In the old days if you came out and said you were gay or a lesbian they thought you had a disease. Without technology they did not know what to do they did not know that it was not a disease but someone’s right of choice. It wasn’t until 1973 until “The American Psychiatric Association removes homosexuality from its official list of mental disorders (Pearson Education, 2013). Today in America the GLBT community is making a lot of progress when it comes to their rights. Just like women they have had to fight for everything they want. People today tend to look past the fact that you are gay or a lesbian. Their still are some prejudice people and they still get discriminated against but it is getting better. The gay and lesbian movement is doing a great job showing people that they this is not a fade they are here to stay. By doing this they are fighting to be equal. Some of the social issues relevant to the GLBT community are health care, housing, economic support and education. Concerning political issues two that are standouts in this very election and those are women’s right and same sex marriage. The social issues for the GLBT community are mainly based on poverty,…

Throughout history women and people of the gay, lesbian, and transgender community have faced many acts of inequality. People of the GLBT community have faced these inequalities in jobs, society, public offices, and other areas as well because of their sexual preference. Both women and members of the GLBT have emerged to see these inequalities being overcome throughout the last century.…

In our day and age, being of a sexual orientation other than heterosexual is somewhat common. Though it is definitely not considered a norm, it is more accepted in most parts of the world. A few years ago, people who were not heterosexual had to hide who they really were in order to be accepted by society. Because of this norm, one automatically assumes they are straight whether it comes to themselves or others. So how do homosexual/asexual people become conscious of their sexual orientation?…

However, there are also other minorities besides those of ethnicity. The LGBTQ community is one of those making up estimated 3.5 percent about nine million people. While the United States is a country based on freedom and equal rights, stating liberty and justice for all, some argue that minorities in our country still have yet to achieve these…

Thesis Statement: The Gay Rights Movement dates back to the 19th century. By 1970 gay and lesbian organizations existed all over the United States and in other countries all over the world. Some supporters of the movement would say that our society as a whole has made great strides towards acceptance of homosexuality. However, gays and lesbians are still fighting for equality in 2009. The issues are vast and widespread, with same-sex marriage at the top of the list. In the world that we live in today one might be surprised to learn how many countries are accepting of gay and lesbians, as well as how many are not. The world has made progress within the last decade regarding this issue, but definitely not enough. We need to take steps to protect and balance Gay rights.…
