1. What is the Data Protection Act 1998?
This is to protect personal data that is provided by customers.
The businesses should be processed fairly and lawfully it must only be used for the specific purpose and must be stated when it is collected. They must not collect to much information and all the data must be accurate. Also the data must not be kept for longer than needed for.
2. Using the HR department and the Accounts department as examples explain what data they might hold.
The data that these departments will hold will include personal details of the staff in the HR department which will include personal details such as Name, Date of Birth, address and any medical or disabilities, this will also include qualifications and experience. The college keeps this information safe through the Data protection Act 1998 which means that the data is protected from anyone who wants to access it and if somebody tells them they will be breaking the law. Also all the computers that are in the college are password protected which means unless you go to the college you won’t be able to log on and then also

It was introduced to try to fight the growing threat of hackers and hacking. The law has three parts. In the U.K., it is now a crime to. Access a computer without permission. The College have setup systems on the computers which track what the students look at on the computer and will warn them if they are looking at something inappropriate this is due to the code of conduct that applies to all of the students that use computers in the college. This is used for teachers when there students are on the computers for work and they can see if they on track and what they are
