The second section of Jesus Camp gets a lot more dramatic and hard to watch. It begins with all the kids on their way to the church camp. The camp is lead by Becky Fisher who is in my mind a complete psycho. At the camp, Fischer stresses the need for children to purify themselves in order to be part of the "army of God". She strongly believes that children need to be in the forefront of turning America toward conservative Christian values and way. She also feels that Christians need to focus on training kids since the Devil are focused on training theirs. The sermons that Becky gives at this church camp are about how the Devil uses tactics to tempt young boys and girls into sin. She uses the lion as a visual metaphor for sin, and tells everyone that the “devil goes after the young.”
Becky Fisher also makes many interesting claims, which I do not believe in. For instance she says that Harry Potter would be put to death in the old world. This is because “Warlocks are enemies of God.” Fisher then goes on to lead a sermon that sounds like a woman screaming or chanting in the back. This in itself heightens the passions of the audience and causes the young people in the audience to start crying. In another scene, Becky Fisher brings out a life size cut out picture of George Bush and says that we need to pray for him. I don’t think this is right because she is basically telling all the young kids that George Bush is a bad President and is only helping the Devil’s cause.
Basically, I disagree with much of this documentary. For one thing, the Evangelistic parents never let their kids learn things for themselves. They start brainwashing them at an early age and never let them out in the world to experience things. I believe that it is these people who end up turning crazy because they can’t fit in with the normal society. I just think that these people are too radical.
