Since graduating in 2008 with my diploma in nursing, I have had many personal and clinical experiences. The challenges I have faced have facilitated my competency as a nurse and increased my desire to continue my education in nursing.…
D.C. went on to receiver her Master’s in Leadership and Nursing Education from Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon, from 2006-2008. While attending graduate school she continued to work at Providence Health and Services. Her current position made it necessary to go back to school because the institution was requiring all supervisors to have a Master’s degree. D.C. enjoyed her on-line educational experience from Warner Pacific. After her degree, she became the manager/director for multi-services…
1. According to (“Roles & Responsibilities”, 2008) Master’s prepared nurse’s role as a researcher includes collaborating and coordinating with others to identify significant researchable problems. In doing so the nurse must be involved in scientific investigation and must be a consumer of research findings. As a nurse researcher you must be conscious of the research process, how it would improve health care by utilizing evidence based practice, and have sensitivity to related issues to protect the rights as a human being. Without research nursing cannot advance 2. In (2012) Peamora & Que noted that as a Master’s prepared nurse collaborator he/she must consult with more than just the patient/client. They possess the capability of consulting on various systems. The nurse will develop a plan and work with others involved to achieve a common goal. 3. The Master’s prepared nurse’s role as a clinician is one who has direct contact with patients. According to Bevis after a few years of experience a clinician is considered an expert. As a clinician he/she may make independent and collaborative decisions. Policies are a must. This nurse must be able to know when to utilize them. Clinical nurse specialist has become an expanded role of the nurse. This nurse is a researcher, collaborator, educator, and an expert care provider in that specialty. Examples of nurse clinicians are nurse practitioners, nurse midwife and nurse anesthetist. 4. The Master’s prepared nurse’s role as a consumer advocate is to advocate for patients/clients. Bevis noted that this nurse is also responsible for advising them where to go to receive care, specific products they should use, and the kind of clinicians they should see. According to Tomajan (2012) any kind of concerns the client has an advocate…

He gave information on his background and what drove him to be a Nurse Practitioner (NP). He really has had a lot of experience, as I will explain to you what he has shared.…
The AACN Preferred Vision of the Professoriate in Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (2008) states that “courses in the nursing program will be taught by faculty with graduate-level academic preparation and advanced expertise in the areas of content they teach.” There is national recognition, however, of the growing shortage of nursing educators to fill faculty and other educator roles within the healthcare delivery system. Master’s programs that prepare graduates for nurse educator roles are designed to meet these needs. Nurses with a master’s degree may teach patients and their families and/or student nurses, staff nurses, and a variety of direct-care providers. As outlined in Essential IX, all master’s-prepared nurses will develop competence in applying teaching/learning principles in work with patients and/or students across the continuum of care in a variety of settings. However, as recommended in the Carnegie Foundation report (2009), Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation, those individuals who choose a nurse educator role, as do all master’s graduates, require preparation across all nine Essential areas, including graduate-level clinical practice content and experiences in an area of nursing practice.…
This essay will be discussing the aspect of role transition in nursing gathered from the nursing and midwifery councils (NMC) the standards of proficiency for pre registration nursing (NMC 2004), the standard aspect I have chosen to discus in this essay is care management.…
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and Grand Canyon University (GCU) both laid emphasis on providing students with a package of knowledge that is "practice-oriented with a goal that professionals develop cutting-edge skills and information for professional roles, and those programs that are more theoretically or research directed with a goal of developing scholars for the generation of new knowledge." ("The Essentials Of Master’s Education For Advanced Practice Nursing," n.d., p. 1) Both AACN and GCU realize the important for the masters prepared nurse to be culturally sensitive and understanding of others, and themselves. Using evidence based practice through research and thinking critically helps the masters prepared nurse to deliver only the uppermost quality of care to their patients, families, and the communities they serve. GCU the College of Nursing (CON) also sees the AACN 's essentials as part of their own recognizing that masters prepared nurses need to be able to provide health assessments that are in-depth and accommodating to the person as an individual, as a family or as a community member. These two organizations express the necessity to be able to gain knowledge and apply it into skills in their clinical practice. The master prepared nurse is expected to be able to be "grounded in the reality of the world, accept the consequences of choice, and strive unselfishly to help others meet their highest potential". (Grand Canyon University Mission and Vision website, 2014) The nursing career affords programs that bring a knowledgeable nurse into a masters prepared nurse who should possess all of the above…
A nurse is a healthcare professional, who in collaboration with other members of a health care team is responsible for the treatment, safety, and recovery of acutely or chronically ill individuals. Nurses are also accountable for the health promotion and maintenance of families, communities, populations, and the treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings. Nurses perform a range of clinical and non-clinical functions necessary to the delivery of health care and may also be involved in medical and nursing research. This paper will reflect the differences in the necessary competencies for nurses prepared at the associate degree (ADN) and baccalaureate of science (BSN) level.…
To pursue my career as a family nurse practitioner is not only challenging intellectually, but on a personal level it is also rewarding to me. It is inspiring in itself to know that, I will be playing an important role in peoples’ lives by helping them achieve optimum health. The nurse practitioner advance degree will increase my knowledge and understanding of the science of nursing. It will provide an opportunity to help me learn in-depth physiological aspects of the patients. Moreover, a nurse practitioner degree will give me the professional autonomy to diagnose, to order labs, to prescribe, to educate on the importance of prevention and manage the overall care of patients. Nevertheless, the advance nursing career will provide me with the flexibility to practice in many areas; such as hospital settings, specialty clinics and primary care clinics. Being a family nurse practitioner will allow me to develop…
The first nurse that I interviewed was a staff nurse in a physician’s office within a hospital organization. She had obtained a BSN and has worked as a staff nurse for 5 years. I submitted my notes on her responses to the questions in a standalone document.…

Over the past decade the nursing field has experienced a growth in demand. Hospitals, clinics, doctor’s offices, and or other health providers have increasingly scouted to employ the best nurses. This growth has also pushed for nurses to seek upgrading their careers status; they do so by choosing a specialty. Specialties vary to include from pediatrics to adult health. The specialty I chose to discuss is women’s health nurse practitioner.…

Associate degree nursing programs teach the technical aspect of nursing care. An associate prepared nurse can function well at the bedside. She can monitor the patient’s needs and record the outcomes of treatments. An associate prepared nurse can use critical thinking skills to determine her best course of action in most situations. But the constantly changing field of healthcare…
A1. The nursing profession has evolved significantly over the decades. One of the factors that have greatly influenced these changes has been the involvement of nurses in the development of theories and data base needed to support the advancement of our profession. In the last half of the twentieth century, nurse researchers (1950s) and nurse theorists (1960s and 1970s) greatly contributed to the expanding body of nursing knowledge with their studies of nursing practice and the development of nursing models and theories (American Nurses Association, 2010, p. 16). Like in any other research activity, a special set of skills is needed in order to conduct the research required so that the whole process can be validated appropriately. Retaining an advanced practice nurse (APN) as a co-investigator and mentor is a vital part in the nursing process for the project to take shape (Gallagher, 2012, para. 5). The masters prepared nurse can be a key element of the research team providing guidance, expertise and ensuring that the information needed to appropriately conduct the research project is available. This professional can also help select members of the research team and find the latest up-to-date evidence based practice, journals, articles and other useful references as well as studies that can help with the task at hand. Research has greatly advanced our profession as well as helped improve the delivery of health as well as its outcomes. For this reason it is important that it is encouraged at all levels of our profession.…
