Good and effective communication is important in a health and social care setting as it:
Reduces conflict
Poor communication creates misunderstanding for the service user. This can be solved when you communicate effectively by making people understand and fill in the gaps of poor communication. You could also use your good communication skills to solve conflict between any other people. The conflict stage refers back back to Tuckman’s ‘storming ‘phase. (http://www.maximumadvantage.com/advantages-of-effective-communication.html)
In a health a social care setting, good communication is important as things can be misinterpreted. For example, if a day nurse does not tell a night …show more content…
nurse important information about her patients, then things can be changed and missed out.
Get more of what you want out of life
When you are able to communicate effectively, your time would be spent more productively and people would be able to help you a lot more than if communication was poor.
This would result in a quick and easy task. (http://www.maximumadvantage.com/advantages-of-effective-communication.html For example, carers should communicate effectively to make sure that the service user is well looked after and is having the correct treatment. If this does not happen, then the service user will suffer as a result of poor communication. This refers to Tuckman’s ‘norming’ stage in his theory.
Have stronger relationships
If good and effective communication occurs strong relationships will form which provides a higher service and help people when they need it. When relationships form, emotions and thoughts are understood exactly how they are supposed to. (http://www.maximumadvantage.com/advantages-of-effective-communication.html. For example, when a carer is your friend, they would want to make sure that you are having the correct treatment and make sure that things are being done correctly. This refers back to Tuckan’s theory-
Help people to adopt your
ideas.
When a health worker comes up with an idea of what to do, the service user must agree on it. This may not be so easy, as some people want to do what they want-if they have a plan of action. Therefore, this leads the carer into making sure that your ideas go ahead, and adapting this idea into what you both find okay. The more you do this, you will find various ways into doing this easily and quickly. http://www.maximumadvantage.com/advantages-of-effective-communication.html. Hi could be the case in a hospital. For example, a patient may not want to do a treatment a certain way or not at all. So, therefore, doctors and nurses have the responsibility that that operation goes ahead. This could be the ‘storming’ stage in Tuckman’s theory. People will like you better
By using effective communication, you will be able to understand someone and approach them by using friendly and appropriate ways to communicate. When friendships are made, people will like you better. http://www.maximumadvantage.com/advantages-of-effective-communication.html This could be referred to Tuckman’s performing stage and also Argyle’s ‘message coded’ stage.
