Gyula Halasz: Brassaï

Gyula Halasz, known as Brassaï was one of the most renowned photographers of the interwar period. Gyula Halasz was born in 1899 at Brasso, in Transylvania, a part of Rumania where at the time belonged to Hungary. He went to Paris in 1924 to become a journalist; moreover, he adopted the name Brassaï from the town of his birth, in 1925. He loved Paris and started to learn French by himself. During the time, he met lots of intelegnet artist, such as Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso ,and Alberto Giacometti. Brassaï spend lots of time wandering on the streets in Paris, and became interested in photography as a way to record encounters on his nightly walks through the streets.
