In this book, Jim Collins also challenges the notion that "people are your most important asset" and postulates, instead, that "the right people are." Despite the author's emphasis on finding the right people, there's no evidence that a company has to have concern for its employees as a core value for it to be great. There are a number of inherently great companies that didn't have this. I don't think Walt Disney cared about his people. He cared about films, and Disneyland, and smiles of kids. On the other side, with Hewlett-Packard and IBM, you had the antithesis of Walt Disney. When you look at corporate history, what matters is not what core values you have but that you have core value, and that you believe them. As another example, take David Maxwell's bus…

Introduction Right leadership is believed to have a strong influence on the perceptions and attitudes of the employees towards the organization which is defined as organizational Culture (Momeni 2009)). There is also a strong association between the leader’s ability to arouse the motivation of the employees by appealing to human needs for achievement, affiliation and power. Business organizations try to achieve a favourable organizational culture because it has been proved that it decreases cost of turnover and employees’ resistance to change and improves quality and turnover (Ayers 2005). For instance, research has proved that between 1990 and 2000 the 100 best US public companies rated as best places to work realized 70% higher returns than the other companies (Goleman et.al 2001). They argue that such returns are influenced one third by a positive organizational Culture and Chen et.al (1998) also argue that 90% of the business success is attributed to the organizational culture of the company. While organizational culture is considered as a significant factor in…

First, values are the foundation for both mission and vision statements, and the constant that should not change or vary. Highly importantly, they help you grow and develop, make who you are, how people perceive you, guide your behavior and attitudes, and reflect the decisions made daily. They are what you believe in about life, yourself, and drive your words and actions. (Grusenmeyer). Four of my core values are, respect, honesty, happiness, and family.…

Google focuses on the end user and all else seems to follow. In our minds, the most important factor is that there is always more information out there. This is what keeps hope alive. Google has grown in a very gradual manner that serves as a strong foundation for years to come. Google was able to grow during the recession in 2009. Google is able to operate on a relatively low operating cost while at the same time, using state of the art technology. It is important that Google uphold its corporate philosophy guidelines. Steering away from these guidelines will result in a diminished brand image and is everything but acceptable. Google must also treat its employees, its most valuable resource, in a manner that induces productivity. Without the knowledge that rests in the minds of these employees Google would…

There are many important aspects to having a good corporate culture. One big aspect is having a clear vision that all your employees know and strive to achieve. The two aspects of corporate culture that I believe are the most important are a company’s values and its people. A companies values make up the main component of a corporations culture. These values are what drives a company and its employees and are based on important aspects like doing your best possible work, being honest and reliable; the values of a company should not change no matter how the company does. The other most important aspect of company culture is people. No matter how quality of a vision or values you have, you need people that will hold to them and believe in their importance. If you hire people that don’t care about a company’s image or about the product that their work provides nothing else will matter, take care to hire high quality individuals who are honest and have a strong work ethic and most aspects of being a successful company will work out. Another aspect of good corporate culture is having a sense of camaraderie and community. When these are in place, it makes it much easier for work to be done, easier for group work and eliminates errors in communication which could lead to crucial mistakes. Communication is also important in…
