A flower is the symbol of beauty, purity, love, affection, and attraction sometimes it is known as a bloom or blossom. Flower have long been admired and used by humans, mainly to beautify their environment. Flower can help a person to send the right message. Many people assign their own personal meanings - a flower or color that might remind them of a special event or moment in their lives.

Consider a nurturing floral arrangement for a new mother, a sick friend or a grieving loved one – anyone who would benefit from a caring, loving embrace. Flower arrangements in pastel shades and the softest yellows, peaches, warm pinks, creamy whites and subtle greens make us feel safe, snug and loved.

Now-a-days in Bangladesh, flower has become a part of business, because of its huge number of use. Over the last 2 decades the flower business is getting increased remarkably.

1.1. Objective

The first objective of preparing this report was to fulfill the course requirement. The other objective was to identify the overview of flower business in Dhaka city and find out how rapidly growth flower business in our country’s economy to all the level of our country.

1.2. Scope

This study needed to deal with the flower industry in Bangladesh and other countries. In Dhaka city there is flower business in different places such as Shahbagh, katabon, khamarbari of farmgate.This survey and information collection was limited within in Shahbagh which is the center of flower business in Dhaka city. So, our working scope was limited. The report is prepared based on Shahbagh flower market.

1.3. Limitations

During preparing this report there were time and cost limitations. The necessary data that is requiring conducting this research is not sufficient. Sometime our respondent did not feel comfort to provide real condition to us.

1.4. Methodology

1.4.1. Types and Sources of Data
The type of our information is mainly the primary data. Most of the information has been gathered through asking questions. We follow several ways to do that mainly we collect information through in-depth interview with tape recorder to the shopkeepers of flower business. We have tried our best to provide the latest information about the flower business in Dhaka city through this report. 1.4.2. Data Collection Plan

We have collected the data about the earnings, expenditure, profit, consumers and import-export of flowers.

1.4.3. Analysis Plan

We have analyzed the weekly, monthly and overall performance of flower business. After analysis the all data we will get some major finding on it, and then we have brought a new result that fulfills our objective or purpose of the study.


2.1. History

It has not been exactly known that when business flowers had been started. Mughal ruled from 1526 to 1859. In the mean time there was vast cultivation and use of flowers. There is a Mughal garden located in India. Historically it has been seen that various types of flowers were used in the king-queen’s palace to enhance the beauty.

According to old myths, it is said that the ancient Egyptians used to sing for the lotus in their parties. Specifically, these were the Lotus (water lily) and Papyrus, symbolizing Upper and Lower Egypt, respectively. However, to the ancient Egyptians, flowers were an important aspect of daily life. They adored fresh floral arrangements, but were also one of, if not the first civilizations to immortalize them as artificial flowers made from durable materials.

Flower as a business came into being after the Second World War and it was Columbia who first introduced flower as a commercial business. The huge success of Columbia in selling flowers to international markets attracted and inspired other countries to enter this highly potential market.
