India, being the second largest cement producer in the world after China with a total capacity of 151.2 Million Tons (MT), has got huge Cement Company. With the government of India giving boost to various infrastructure projects, housing facilities and road networks, the cement industry in India is currently growing at an enviable pace. More growth in the Indian cement industry is expected in the coming years. It is also predicted that the cement production in India would rise to 236.16 MT in FY11. It's also expected to rise to 262.61 MT in FY12. The cement industry in India is dominated by around 20 companies, which account for almost 70% of the total cement production in India. In the present year, the Indian cement companies have produced 11 MT cement during April-September 2009. It took the total cement production in FY09 to 231 MT. Equity valuation means the Total value of the business after taking out the amount owed to debt holders. Valuation is the process that links risk and the return to determine the worth of the assets. It can be applied to expected benefits from real/physical as well as financial asset/securities to determine their worth at a given point of time. The equity valuation method takes several types of data into account, and can be used as part of a prediction model to determine the economic future of the company. The valuation also provides some indication of the level of risk involved in investing in the company I have taken this topic to study equity valuation of the Indian cement industry. For that data collection method of secondary .I have taken the cement companies which are listed in BSE(BOMBAY STOCK EXCHANGE).I have taken top 5 companies which are listed in BSE. I have done analysis of equity valuation of top five cement companies for the last 5 year (2005-2006 to 2010-1011) I have found out which company has high market value and which company has lowest market value. And also found out average return and risk of each cement
