Compare and contrast the two Catherine's in the novel.

In the novel "Wuthering Heights", the major female character, Catherine had given birth to young Catherine. Their character traits are alike. There are contrasts between them, too. Nelly once said that, "Cathy was the most winning thing that ever brought sunshine into a desolate house - a real beauty in face - with the Earnshaw's handsome dark eyes." But Heathcliff said that, "Those two, who have left the room, are the only objects which retain a distinct material appearance to me; and that appearance cause me pin, amounting to agony. About her, I won't speak; and I don't desire to think; but I earnestly wish she were invisible - her presence invokes only maddenly sensation" In addition to their physical similarities, they also shared character traits. They were both loving, wild and not think carefully before doing things.

Catherine and young Catherine were loving. Loving means love their man, who they loved deeply. For Catherine, she loved Heathcliff deeply. She would like to sacrifice herself marrying Edgar Linton for helping Heathcliff. She said to Nelly, "Heathcliff shall never know how I love him; and that, not because he's handsome, Nelly. But because he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same, and Linton's is as different as a moonbeam from lightning, or frost from fire. If Heathcliff and I married, we should be beggars? Whereas, if I marry Linton, I can aid Heathcliff to rise, and place him out of my brother's power." Catherine was so love Heathcliff that she would sacrifice herself marrying a man that she didn't love for aiding Heathcliff. Her love to Heathcliff were deep. For young Catherine, she loved young Linton deeply at the beginning. They loved each other. They sent letter every day. She took care of Linton when he was sick. Later, Linton died. She found that she started loving her cousin, Hareton. She said that, "I've found out, Hareton, that I want - that I'm grad - that I should like you to be my cousin, now, if you had not grown so cross to me, and so rough." They later be friends and in love each other. Young Catherine would like to teach him by heart and her love for upgrading him like what her mother did but in a different ways. Catherine and young Catherine both had a kind- hearted and would like to help their man who she loved. But Catherine would like to sacrifice herself but young Catherine helped Hareton herself by teaching him.

Two Catherine were both wild. Wild means do things in a naught way. For Catherine, she went to spy Lintons with Heathcliff at one night. They laughed at Lintons near the winows. Heathcliff said that, "The idiots, that was their pleasure!! To quarrel who should hold a heap of warm hair, and each began to cry because both, after, struggling to get it, refused to take it. We, Catherine and I, laughed outright at the petted things, we did despise them ! When would you catch me wishing to have what Catherine wanted?" Catherine was wild that she went to spy others. Catherine didn't behave like a high- educated lady. She ran out and played naughtily. For young Catherine, Edgar never let young Catherine went out for Heathcliff was near Thrushcross Grange. Once young Catherine lied to Nelly that, "I was an Arabian merchant, going to cross the Desert with his caravan; and you must give me plenty of provision for herself and beasts a horse, and three camels." Then, she ran away with the food and went to Pennistone Cragg herself. Nelly went to find her everywhere. At last, in the evening, she found her that she was in Wuthering Heights. But young Catherine refused to go and hidden from Nelly. Nelly said, "How long am I to wait? It will be dark in ten minutes. Well, Miss Cathy, if you were aware whose house this is, you'd be glad enough to get out." Cathy's behaviour made Nelly cry. Cathy was wild. Both Catherines were wild and were very naughty. But Catherine won't listen to others. Young Catherine had promised that she wouldn't go to Wuthering Heights again after that time. She promised Nelly.

Impulsive was once two Catherines' character traits. They were done things very hot- tempered. For Catherine, we knew that she didn't think careful that she had sacrificed herself to marry Edgar Linton for helping Heathcliff would make Heathcliff very sad. Nelly said that, "I just saw Heathcliff. He was there, hearing you said that it would be degraded for marrying him. For young Catherine, she did things very impulsively. She would like to explore the world outside her home. She ran out once when Edgar Linton was off to carry Isabella's son, young Linton.

For two Catherines, they have similar characters traits but acts very differently. For comparing, young Catherine was wiser. She solved the problems and did things wiser that her mother, Catherine.
