Clinical Shadowing Experience

I served as a student volunteer for Hammer and Nails a non-profit organization that works to serve the community with the mission of improving the quality of lives for low-income families through home repair. Most of the home owners in Canton, Ohio faced financial hardship and could not fund the extensive repair and renovation that their homes needed and thus relied on volunteer services for help. Through my time spent with Hammer and Nails I savored learning about the families within the community and how their lives were impacted by the local volunteers throughout many years. I enjoyed helping in the office with administrative work and with home renovations through painting and carpeting. I learned that a healthy life begins at home, and a clean and well-constructed home contributes to good physical and mental health.
Murthy, at the Stark County coroner’s office. I was able to learn about the organization of tissues and how different organs work in unity to make a functional being. I enjoyed my task of weighing organs because it taught me to distinguish between normal and diseased organs. I learned that forensic pathology is a unique speciality that focuses on post-mortem diagnosis instead of life preservation. I was able to witness the level of thorough communication needed to effectively share medical diagnoses with second and third party members like the deceased’s relatives, judges and police
