Goodwill Rescue Mission
The second organization that I had the opportunity to volunteer for is Goodwill Rescue mission. They created this organization in 1896. Under the leadership of Rev. Lawrence Sutherland, the purpose of the organization moved from being a struggling institution to one with a nationwide reputation. They shared the love of God in Christ by providing food, shelter, spiritual guidance and instruction for the poor and the homeless in Newark. According to Goodwill Rescue mission, they affiliate with helping the individuals directly rather than send them someplace else to fend for themselves. The program is also working with some of these individuals to get them back on their feet to fend for themselves. They have to go through programs if any of them …show more content…
It was about two different groups of volunteers who attended, and we supported with handing out food to the people who need it. Has a community, we cannot just sit at home and act like the things that are occurring in the society does not affect us as well. Helping the people the community and seeing how some people need these kinds of organizations shows that we as a community are doing the job. The people are part of the society, and as a college student in the Public Administration field, it showed me that to move ahead as a society we have to carry everybody along. Also, by providing these resources, it keeps many of these people out of the street; and it makes the community improve as a whole. After seeing how this organization helps the community and also hearing what people say that we the society are not helping the poor, I believe that it is …show more content…
Getting to communicate with the people in the society, helps me improve as a student and a person. It will also help me grow as a public administrator because it teaches me how I can improve my community. The organization showed me how the grant is made. The government gives them some money, and they also receive donations from places like Wholes food, Prudential, and other

Spelman College’s motto, A Choice to Change the World, mirrors my goal as a member of this intellectual community. During my first year at this institution, I dedicated myself to several hours of community service. I found that this was a vital part of my intellectual growth as both a student and person within society. This year I volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, however I dedicated most of my time to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Before volunteering for this organization I was not quite sure how I would be able to make a significant difference in my community. However, when I volunteered for this organization, I was able to tremendously help people in Atlanta. Likewise, this experience opened my eyes to the increasing…

Oxfam works with partners and communities on long term programmers to exterminate poverty and fight injustice. There are many fund raising events taking place which raise money for Oxfam as well as other business which represent them.…

Once a month, our organization, Ketchikan CPOA helps the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen prepare meals, serve and clean up, I have dedicated three years of monthly service to helping plan, prep, and cook and serve the citizens of Ketchikan, AK who need it. This service has had a profound effect on my life. The most memorable time I can recall was my first time attending the soup kitchen. I enjoyed meeting the staff at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, working with my fellow Coast Guard men and women to prep the meal, and to meet the patrons who attended breakfast that day.…

I had an amazing opportunity to volunteer at the Salvation Army building on 4th Street, San Jose. The Salvation Army was founded by General William Booth and started in 1865. Since then it has grown to almost 1,150,666 members. It runs through the Protestant Church and they believe in the Holiness Movement. As of currently its headquarters is in London and they can be located in 127 different countries. The reasoning of its name is because it consists of officers, soldiers and adherents who are known as Salvationists. This means to bring salvation to those in need and to the poor.…

Volunteer organizations I have been a part of are the Night in the Country Volunteer parking. My duties involved taking a paint marker and tagging the cars with their campsite number so they knew where to park their trailers and or trucks. I also had to do my best to answer any questions that people had on where certain places were. The second organization I have participated in is the Vineyard Fellowship Night of Lights. This event took place on Halloween night so I had to dress up in a costume. I had to operate a game booth such as fishing for candy and musical chairs. Finally the last organization I was a part of was the Vineyard Fellowship Community Christmas Dinner. For this event I had to help set everything up and prepare the food the…

Have you had any volunteer experiences and, if so, what did you like about participating? Give at least one example of what you liked. I have volunteered with Canterbury United Methodist Church on a mission trip and the Birmingham Zoo. When I volunteered with Canterbury, we went on a mission trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a week during the summer. I had the opportunity to travel to another city, in a different state, to help those who are less fortunate and live in harsh conditions. Seeing the harsh conditions that some people live in was very eye-opening for me because it really made me realize how fortunate, not only I, but the rest of my community is. I loved helping the people in Asheville because I knew that it is something they…

This past summer I was part of the leadership staff at Camp Howard. I was a unit director for the 1st and 2nd graders who came to camp for the day. This unit consisted of 30 campers and 4 counselors whom I was in charge of. I am also the treasurer of the College of Democrats and I volunteer with multiple organizations. For example, I help students and community members register to vote and I work closely with the office of Lane County of Democrats. I volunteer with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars by holding toy drives for homeless shelters. Another service experience I've had is volunteering with the Sparrow Club in my hometown. In my Senior Year of being in the National Honor Society, I was excited to volunteer and to help those in need. I helped out with a soup kitchen in Brainerd through another organization that I am in, the Student Council. As I scooped soup into bowls and placed them onto people’s trays, I could see a look of appreciation and gratitude on their faces. This was the first time in my National Honor Society career where I understood just how much my time and effort meant to these individuals. This volunteer opportunity made me realize that a simple meal, smile, and effort to do something helpful and nice can really make someone’s day brighter or easier.…

I had a amazing chance to help out at local help centers in Mansfield. I was surprise how actually beneficial it was to our people n our community. I honestly thought it was just hand out to people who is sort of struggling. I know there is some few greedy people who would take everything that they can get and still have money in their pocket and I also know there is few individual who really need it. I must admitted I really didn't want to go to those four laces. The first one that I went to I force my self to go after I got done doing that. I couldn't wait to go to another one. My less favorite ones was the domestic shelter and the harmony house. My favorite one was The church and The salvation Army. I was shocked how going to those sites tied u so much into what we learn in class.…

Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…
