Charlotte Dymond Newspaper Article
A young farmhand, Matthew Weeks, was declared guilty yesterday and is due to be hung for a merciless, heartless, pitiless murder.
To express the enlivenment roused by this trial would be nonsensical.
People turned up in excess to observe the trial and seemed to have come from far and wide. Throughout the day the court was crawling with people to see the verdict.

The case was of a poor, unfortunate, young farm girl who was murdered a several months ago.
The gruesome event took place on
Sunday 14th April last, when the convicted and the deceased went for a walk together on the moor.

Charlotte, the deceased, told Mrs. Philipa Peters, the owner of the farm that both she and Matthew worked on, that she would not be home at milking time, but that Matthew would do her share of the work. It is believed that she had arranged to meet another lover, a
Thomas Prout, at the chapel that evening. Mrs. Peters was concerned about
Charlotte when Matthew returned home later that night.

When his stockings were found to be dirty from walking far onto the moor, he denied going onto the moor and said that he went no further than Higher Down Gate. He stated that Charlotte went onto the moor, and he bade her good day and walked the other way, towards a small village about two miles off. Then, he supposedly visited two families by the name of Westlake, but neither where in.

Two days after the incident, Mrs Peters searched his coat pocket that he was wearing on the night of the disappearance. In it she found
Charlotte’s green gauze handkerchief. Also, his razor appeared to be missing.

A week after the disappearance Matthew , dressed in his Sunday Best, told Mrs Peters that he would be home in time for dinner and set off.

He did not return.
When Charlotte’s body was found it was acknowledged that a cut-throat razor was the murder weapon, and also, the body was found at the place where she and Matthew had allegedly walked.

More crucially, witnesses

This case was a lot different than the Fritzhugh video case, we had seen the week before. I believed that her husband had murdered her from the very start. It did not make any sense why he had to bring people to check on his wife, and the bloody clothes in the car. Like I said, the Brenton Butler case had no real evidence to me, where the fritzhugh case, was too much…

Gentlemen of the jury, we have gathered to decide the fate of a boy, a life or death decision. This is a responsibility that must not be taken lightly, a guilty child born into a corrupt system shouldn’t be culled due to the ignorance and failure to achieve the justice he deserves. This boy, who is in good health, and should live to a good age, will come to a permanent end. In my many years of law it has never been clearer to me the suspect has been falsely accused. It is your duty as the jury, the established law that is supposed to keep the innocent out of jail, to decide the fate of an innocent man.…

    Miss America Article

The article, “Miss America and social media’s ignorant bigotry” written by Leonard Pitts Jr. is about how people label all Indian people as being Muslim and view them as terrorists, even though they are not Muslim. People in the US commit acts of violence against people from India who are presumed to be Muslim, and assume they are terrorists. The recently crowned Miss America is of Indian descent and people feel that this is not acceptable, and some people feel Miss America should be white with blonde hair and blue eyes. These pageants should not have the prejudices of people with foreign descent. The main point of this article is to illustrate the problems Indian people as well as people from the Middle East presently face in the US. They are disrespected and acts of violence are committed against them. Some people in America tend to be ignorant towards people from middle Eastern countries and in some cases, fear them. Some make certain stereotypes, like all Arab people are terrorists, for example. I agree with the article’s purpose. I feel that many Americans are very prejudiced and tend to dislike people of Arab descent, because of the groups they are associated with, in this case, terrorists. I think that this topic is very popular in present time, and is also very controversial. Many people have different views about it, and I feel this topic is imperative and needs to be discussed more often. I knew about this topic, but after the Miss America competition, I didn’t know that people posted images and comments on social sites that spoke so negatively about Nina Davuluri. I feel that is despicable and is truly a shame. Nina should be viewed the same way as any other pageant…
