1. Identify the store and the day and time you made your observation.
For this assignment I went to Randall’s, a local grocery store in my area, where I observed consumer behavior. Upon arrival at Randall’s I decided that I would observe consumers on the shopping on the wine isle and in the dairy section. I observed on man and one woman on the wine isle (they were not together) and one woman in the dairy section.
2. Analyze the behaviors you observed to determine how consumers progressed through the consumer behavior process while in different aisles.
To understand how the consumer progressed through the consumer behavior process, we must first understand the consumer buying process. It is also important to note that not every consumer goes through all the stages. There are six stages in the consumer buying process: Problem Recognition (need) - in this stage the consumer realizes that they are lacking something, therefor they have a need; Information Search- now that the consumer has acknowledged their need (or want) they start finding the necessary information or taking the necessary actions to fulfill their need; Evaluation of Alternatives- in this stage the consumer knows what they need or they at least have some general idea, and now they are looking at all the options available to them; Purchase Decision- At this point the consumer is now processing all the information from the evaluation of alternatives, and deciding to move forward with their purchase or not; Purchase- this is the stage where the transaction is complete. The need that was previously acknowledged has been met; Post Purchase Evaluation- At this point the consumer decides whether they are happy with their purchasing decision or if they have feelings or remorse. The three consumers I chose to observe all recognized they had a need, so they all

This past summer I worked at a groceries store called La Villita, where I had a lot of contact with other people. Even though I was talking to people and taking care of their needs, that kind of job is boring, therefore I started to study how they shop. There were some customers that went to the store, very often, around 2 times a day and probably 4 days a week, but on the other hand there were some others that just went once, and I never see their faces again. According to how people behave, I soon categorized them into three different groups.…

Having a mom that constantly drags me to the grocery store with her at least four times a week for "bonding time" has allowed me to observe the different types of shoppers at my local grocery store. Usually, I end up buying Starbucks inside and sit observing the different ways people behave while shopping. It is quite interesting watching the way people walk down the isles and how they portray themselves. My observations have allowed me to distinguish three different types of shoppers that definitely caught my eye: the bargain shopper, impulse shopper, and the multitasker.…

However, this might not be the case. Not every consumer passed through all these stages when making a decision to purchase and in fact, some of the stages can be skipped depending on the type of purchases.…

The buying process starts with need recognition, where the buyer recognizes a problem or need (example: I am hungry or we need a sofa) or else responds to a marketing stimulus (example: you pass a café and are attracted by the aroma of coffee and muffins). At this stage the decision-making process may stall if the consumer is not motivated to continue. However, if the consumer does have the internal drive to satisfy the need, they will continue to the next…

Consumer buying behavior can be defined as the way in which consumers or buyers of goods and services tend to react or behave when purchasing products that they like. Buyers tend to exhibit different types of buying behavior when they are in the process of purchasing goods and services and the behaviors witnessed are influenced by the type of product he/she wants to buy. Consumer buying behavior involves a long process where the buyer has to identify the product, study well its features, the pros and the cons and lastly deciding on whether to purchase it or not. Consumer buying behavior would make a certain buyer to purchase product A as opposed to product B or whether to purchase a certain product or leave it alone and all that is as a result of the buying decisions made by the buyer as to whether the product suits his/her needs and requirements. Consumers of goods and services may possess different types of consumer buying behavior that are unique to themselves. The buying behavior of consumer A may be different from those of consumer B and the difference may very well boil down to varying buying decision made by a consumer. According to Webster, “Buying behavior is all psychological, social and physical behavior of potential customers as they become aware of, evaluate, purchase, consume and tell other people about products and services.” Hence, buying behavior involves a complicated series of stimulus and response reactions to many factors or motives. These motives may be expressed or unexpressed and are based up on deepseated needs or more openly felt wants. When someone buys something, he or she psychologically satisfies both a need and a want. He or she buys a specific product out of a vast log, because it provides him or her with certain mental or physical satisfactions.…
