Case Study Of Cardigan Advertising
The Cardigan feel like they have rights to put their commercial on the air because they are protected under the 1st Amendment freedom of speech. They also feel that their commercial will not cause any problems. WBLAH feel like that parent has rights to have suitable programs for their children and they should not have watch commercial that is not suitable for their children. WBLAH have a strong case because if WBLAH's station is for children they have to right to say no but Cardigan can research commercials that WBLAH show and proves that WBLAH did violate their 1st Amendment rights. In conclusion, both sides have good a case.

    Most of us don’t realize how often we really are influenced by advertising or marketing. We wake up, turn the television on, and begin our day. But how would life be if we didn’t have constant commercials or ads blaring at us day in and day out? What if we took it all away from the beginning? Advertising, as a means of production, is used to “announce or praise in some public medium of communication in order to induce people to buy or use it.” However, what is it really used for? We have always been a dignified nation, establishing ourselves as one of the top leaders. But as we grew in strength, our image rapidly changed. The United States has always been a desired place by many; but what made that so? Was it because our Presidents and government were the best? Or was it the land that glorified the nations look? No matter when, the United State has done it’s part to make the nation look great. But why has our image always been so important? I believe it fair to say that advertising is the main culprit. While its intention to create an immediate desired reaction on the consumer was qualified at the beginning, it has evolved into identifying the underlying differences of should and should not. The ethics have been stretched and pulled, just so advertisers could target people properly, by creating an image of “lesser than” unless their product was consumed. The nation as a whole has always remained strong, however individual images have been altered. Despite the glorifying and prosperous look of the nation during the 1920’s, 1930’s, and 1940’s, advertising poorly influenced the nation because it created very materialistic lifestyles, it forced people to buy what they did not need, and it lured people into having false hopes.…

    The Persuaders covers their market research methods that helps them understand consumers, and how they can get us to buy into their product. It has many short case studies from different companies on how they are selling their product whether it is an airline or laundry detergent. The documentary even dives into marketing effects in politics. He discusses how politicians use these tools to get elected and stay in office. At first thought as I sat to watch this I was intrigued. I am indeed marketing major and this topic I find so interesting. Breaking through the clutter is a major theme of marketers and we discussed that when we covered marketing. Some other things mentioned were that we as consumers are trapped in the marketing pinball machine and we are just bounced back and forth from advertisements like a pinball. During this part of the film they showed how much advertising we are hit with every day. Even in class we were once told that as a toddler we are familiar with over 200 brands. It makes perfect sense if you go look at time square in New York City. Screens, posters, banners, planes, buses, cars, skyscrapers...Everything was an advertisement. Us as people are even billboards for our favorite companies, wearing their logo on our chest. If we weren't constantly being bombarded with advertising that might not be necessary but in today’s world it is. They had good points that are worth mentioning again. My favorite was the agency that studied cults and why people ever followed a cult. They then applied this knowledge to the brands they managed. Also they studied companies that had already built a strong following, companies like Apple, Saturn, and Volkswagen. They called this kind of marketing, Psuedo-Spiritual Marketing; it made people feel like they belonged to something bigger than just themselves.     Puffery is the legal term for ad claims that state opinions rather than facts and that are excused from legal control even when the advertiser disbelieves them. Advertisers goals and objectives consist of trying to persuade people into buying a product or service through various typed of methods. Companies may delivers certain messages about its products, compare them to similar items, list facts about them, or state vague claims about them, which cannot be proved or disproved.
