Career Interests Profiler and Competencies
Career Interests Profiler and Competencies Understanding my personal competencies will help me improve my critical thinking skills by not making quick decisions, analyze and think about what I do before I do it, and striving to see improvement in my work and coping with pressure. Making quick decisions has always been a problem I had. Instead of thinking about a situation and the effects it can have on me and others I always just jump right into a quick decision. The career competencies survey made me realize I need to think about others in my decisions making, and work as a team to come up with best solution. Doing this will take the pressure off of me worrying about the outcome of my decision. Since taking the survey has showed me that I know how to follow directions and can adapt to change, Upholds ethic, and values. I am organized with planning and activities working with a group and using critical thinking skills should come with ease. Critical thinking can help with working with others on projects, meeting deadlines and coping with pressure from others. Everyone should use critical thinking skills in any situation to avoid misunderstandings and arguments. In the business world critical thinking is very important you don’t want to offend anyone or lose a deal because you didn’t ask the right question or make the right decision. Taking the survey will help me separate facts, and think about outcomes. In doing this my work can be accurate and fair. If I stick to these values I will be able to evaluate a problem or argument before it happens. In an argument I can get the facts, analyze the situation and take the fair approach. I do realize everyone is not going to like the outcome of my decision but knowing what my competencies are will make me feel that I evaluated the situation and made the best decision for the company.

By completing the competency assessment it helped me analyzed the result, my strengths are: following instructions, adhering to values, organizing, delivering results, coping with pressure, and cooperating. By appropriately following instructions from others without unnecessarily challenging authority will improve my critical thinking skills. Adhering to values, is another strength of mine. In critical thinking I should not take what I hear or read at face value, but weigh up the evidence and consider the implications and conclusions of what was said. “There is nothing more common than evaluation in the everyday world but for sound evaluation to take place, one must establish relevant standards, gather appropriate evidence, and judge the evidence in keeping with the standards” (Russell, 2013). Part of critical thinking is evaluation, to be able to evaluate an evidence is needed. I am an organized person, I can gather all information needed to evaluate something for critical thinking. Another way in applying my results is through evaluating arguments. Coping with pressure is one of my strength, because this, I should be able to see arguments from different point of views. “Reasoning is generally seen as a means to improve knowledge and make better decisions” (Sperber, 2011).…

The career plan building activity: reasoning aptitude helped me realize my strengths and opportunities. The results in the strength category were lower than I thought they would be. I scored the highest on adapting to change and that was the one that I felt I would have scored the lowest because I do not do very well with change unless I am prepared for the changes beforehand. When it came to researching, taking initiative, being innovative, organizing, and delivering results, I score 3 out of 5 possible points. I felt that with organizing and taking initiative, I would have had a higher score because I organize everything and I tend to take the initiative in a lot of situations at work, with school, and in my personal life.…

From an employer point of view I would think critical thinking is a very important attribute when looking for a candidate for a job. It is important to have an employee that is a good critical thinker because this helps when you know an employee can use their thinking skills to give great input for problems that arise. If an employee is a good critical thinker you don’t have to worry about them getting their work done because you know they will have little problems getting the task at hand accomplished. If an employee is not a good critical thinker you always have to worry if they can get out of a jam themselves or you might feel as if you have to baby sit them through most of the hard task that come about.…
