Some look at leadership as the ability to lead. I agree 100% with leadership being the ability to lead, but in order to have the ability to lead you have to have more. There has to be a process of social leadership in which a person is able to aid and support others in their accomplishment when it comes to a specific task; this is a process of social influence on someone. Paying attention to how leaders carry themselves and interact with others socially giving guidance and being helpful. Leadership is also organizing a group or team of people to achieve a common goal and sometimes the leader may not have formal authority, but they are leading/guiding the group or team in accomplishing the goal.…

I asked myself, “what can I do to make an impact on my community?”. That is when I founded my high school’s Red Cross Club. We aimed to push the vision-mission, “to alleviate human suffering through volunteering and donations” to the student body to make a change in our community. I initially started with only three other members, however, we bolstered our ranks by over 20+ members in two weeks. Balancing 7 AP and PreAP classes, such as Biology and US History, proved to be a challenge for management of the club. Keeping up with extracurriculars was not always easy however, I always made time to supervise my club. Being a leader at times was very frustrating, but overall it was a very positive experience. While I did slave for the club, it never felt like work to me because I felt very passionate helping others. The Red Cross Club became my medium for making a positive impression on my environment. Through the cooperation of my school’s class officers and my own members, we did donations like can drives around Thanksgiving to help soften the burden of low income families in inner Houston. In addition, with collaboration with Student Council, we fundraised and donated to sponsor underprivileged children during Christmas. Being a part of this club has made a positive impact on my life to be great. My experiences at the club made me develop a strong work ethic, and useful leadership experience to be used in…

I have taken on many leadership roles in the past, serving as an officer of my high school’s FFA chapter as well as a high school class officer and student council officer. More recently, I have served as the secretary of St. John Paul II Catholic Ministries at SVSU, as well as the Vice President of Service for Alpha Phi Omega. As an executive board member for our Catholic ministry, I send out weekly newsletters highlighting all upcoming events. I also work with the officer team to coordinate with priests, plan social gatherings, and ensure that all members of the SVSU community are up to date on our events. As an officer for Alpha Phi Omega, I plan and coordinate all community service events for the campus, fraternity, community, and nation. I ensure that we have at least one service event planned each week, contacting and collaborating with numerous community organizations to do so. I plan large chapter events such as our annual Red Cross blood drive and our spring Youth Service Day project, as well as smaller projects such as bingo with the local nursing home. It brings me great joy to be able to share my love for service and my love for the Lord with my fellow students. Although I may not hold any official leadership positions, I believe that I possess the necessary characteristics needed in any good leader and enjoy utilizing them. The main place that I see myself as a leader is on the soccer field. On the JV soccer team for the last two years, I played nearly every available minute at center back, or middle defense, rarely coming off the field. As a player who can see nearly the entire field, a center back has many other jobs other than one on one defending. One of the center back's principle responsibilities is to make sure that all of the other nine outfield players are in the correct position.…

This year’s Juniors have shown a few examples of lead by serving. Some examples are picking up trash, putting up chairs after practice, and helping teammates when they are in need. If we start doing more, it will not only better our team but can also set an example for the younger kids on the team and our entire school itself.…
