Real- Life and Literary Hero Persuassive Essay Example

Heroes do many things in ways to help other people. The main character named Jonas in the book named The Giver by Lois Lowry played a very large role as a hero throughout this novel. Another hero that obtained similar characteristics as the literary hero name Jonas is Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman is a historical hero in the way as how she succeeded in helping run away slaves. Heroes risk their lives for a purpose and that’s what these people accomplished. Harriet Tubman; an African American hero was a runaway slave who sought out to help other slaves to escape as she did. Harriet Tubman risked her life over a period of ten years guiding African American slaves through the Underground Railroad towards their freedom. She led hundreds of slave through a net work under ground of safe houses were slaves could stay on their journey north. This hero was known as the “Moses of her Time.” Harriet Tubman, during nights as slaves slept came and led them towards the Underground Railroad where they could travel north to free states. Ms. Tubman later in her life was leader in the abolitionist movement. During the civil war which occurred in 1861 to 1865 Harriet Tubman was a spy for the federal force in North Carolina. Leading slaves towards freedom gave Harriet Tubman a title and she was known as the hero of her time. A literary hero in a novel named The Giver by Lois Lowry was a boy named Jonas, and how he struggled living in his community of sameness. Jonas received the role in his community as the receiver; as the receiver of his community he gains all the memories of a real life like love, pain, and the sight of color because every one in his community are color blind. Jonas receives memories from the giver; the mentor of the role he was given, as Jonas discovers these memories he sees that his community is not the greatest. As he gains more memories Jonas is sick of his community and he want to run away from all the structure in his community. He makes his decision
