One reason schools should get rid of sports is because we need to focus on learning. In the spring of 2012, Premont Independent School District was threatened by the state because of education failing and money issues. This proves that sports can allow the state to shut you down due to education failure. There Superintendent Ernest Singleton then decided to shut down sports and the school's academics improved. This proves that shutting down sports help your school become smarter. This all means that shutting down sports will help education.…
“Sports do have many benefits, providing exercise, lessons in perseverance, school spirit, and just plain fun.” Although sports do have many benefits, they have gone to far with it at schools.…
or many years, athletics have improved junior’s well-beings and their schooling, but some academies have been thinking of getting rid of these programs all together. The two articles mentioned that school should keep or get rid of sports. One is written by Amanda Ripley while the other Tim O’Shei. Both have good arguments yet Tim’s article provides more positive undertones and uses of sports. Therefore physical education should stay in schools because It helps improve children’s grades and health, equal opportunities are given to students that didn’t exercise before, AND athletic careers can open for people who play competitive games early in their lives.…
Most say if schools cut sports the students grades will improve. However, kids in sports have to pass to play. That is motivation for some kids, if schools take sports out some kids may have no motivation to try and will flunk. Also, the coaches stress student-athletes and make sure the players are passing.…
“People spend long hours practicing, and that commitment extends to the rest of the school, which means that students are practicing for the game instead of doing their school work” (Ripley 10). When one school banned sports for good, they had a 30% increase in the school’s average grade level. Student’s grades are suffering from sports, schools should no longer have after school athletics. It is clear that all after school sports should no longer be so that all students can learn with their full attention on school…
Sports also help prepare kids for life and how to deal with real life situations. Sports gives kids a place to experience the thrill of setting and achieving goals, as well as how to strive for personal bests and gain confidence in themselves. This new found confidence helps them succeed in school, personal relationships, and…
In the last few years our nation has been faced with enormous budget constraints. Nearly every state has either reduced education funding or has maintained funding at a certain level due to the economic downturn of the nation. School districts have needed to find ways to do more with less, especially in the Sunnyside Unified School District. Most of the funding in our district goes toward technology. Although technology is a big part of our 21st Century goals, over funding for one area has been detrimental for our athletic programs. This poses a problem because athletics can be an incentive for students and can encourage them to keep up academically to stay eligible to play. Another important aspect of sports is that it teaches valuable life skills such as adversity, teamwork, integrity, honesty, and responsibility. Sports also build school spirit for both athletes and non-athletes. For these reasons it is important that we keep high school athletics going for students and schools. To improve athletic funding, as an administrator reaching out to local businesses, implementing fundraising campaigns, and organizing booster clubs would be best to financially support the athletic programs at the school.…
Sports keep teens well behaved at school and in class. Sports reduce the number of fights, and bad classroom behavior. In order to play any sport in high school, the students must make good grades. If they fail to make the grades, then they are either dismissed from the team, or they must take a study hall before each practice for at least 30 minutes, sometimes even for the whole day until his or her grade comes up to a passing grade. In most high schools, there are problems with attendance from the students. If a player does not come to school, then they may not go to practice or attend the game that…
Today, college athletes are working every day, 24/7. These athletes are working day in and out to sure that they meet academic standards and also to keep up with their sport when they’re playing competitive. They not being rewarded or credited for their achievements. They are also living with no money. Since these athletes are living off with no money, they are tempting to take the money from their sports booster club or others donation that are helping them. The problem with this is that athletes are not only getting themselves in trouble but also getting their athletic departments in trouble as well.…
High school sports are a thing people tend to associate with a lot of other things. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. Their association with these things make people wonder if we should have them in our schools, and the answer is, rather obviously, no. While sports have some benefits, they are more harm than good because of the injuries they cause, the scholarships they don’t provide and the funding it takes from other extracurricular activities.…
interested in. They would be responsible for getting there work done. Sports even keep kids focus on what they want to do for their future. Like, they could get scholarships from sports, which continues their education.…
“Research shows that people who play high school sports get better jobs, with better pay. Benefits that last a lifetime.” Some high schoolers that play sports may even go further with their education. Just by playing sports. Scholarships can even be given to students who are exceptionally good at the sport they play. Which would help…
Some may argue that sports play an important role in teaching life lessons to athletes. Yes, you can learn valuable things through sports, but you can take on even better traits through school and teamwork activities in the classroom without the problems that athletics comes with, like injuries and pressure. School comes before athletics and some athletes think athletics are more important than school, so eliminating sports will help these students learn valuable life lessons through school and activities in the classroom with other students.…
Many people think that it is unfair that the student-athletes make their college money and yet the students see none of it. For instance, Veazey states, "Sept.02--In 2010-11, the University of Memphis men's basketball team brought in $16.7 million. Will Barton, who spent 18 hours that year playing for the Tigers and hundreds of hours practicing and preparing for those games, saw none of it" (Veazey). One main belief on the topic is that the student-athletes should receive money for making their college millions. On the other hand, the colleges use their income to support the sports teams with healthcare, supplements, etc. The student-athletes already receive thousands of dollars towards their college payments, as well as many other benefits for their hard work. College sports is not a profession to make money, it is an amateur…
Activities and sports in schools is a great way for students to be involved, and to be active. I have done research and there hasn’t been one article I found on why sports shouldn’t be in schools. Having athletic programs and activities in schools are very helpful for students health, it develops team work, helps develop discipline and also perfection. School administrators, and parents, generally support high school activity programs because of the positive effect these activities appear to have on students of both genders. (Braddock P.1)…
