The youthful energy found in John F. Kennedy's speech is evident throughout. He had just won a long hard fought campaign, yet chose not to focus on the policies that helped him win specifically. The goals he has are illustrated in strong appeals to emotion, by making a connection with the everyday American citizen. He personalizes his speech in looking forward to the future while using the past as an example.…
It was almost 80 years ago when John F. Kennedy was voted 'Most Likely To Succeed' by Harvard University. The college seemed to see him fit to take that title, and would have kicked themselves later on if they hadn't. Through the 46 short years of his life, he served as a highly esteemed lieutenant for the Navy, funded and urged NASA to become the first space station to send a man on the moon, was a congressman for six years, and became the President of the United States from 1961 until his unfortunate assassination in 1963. His long and productive lineage had formed him into a strong and convincing leader, one who inspired many generations to come in his fight for justice and world peace.…
The poor and the disempowered were special to Kennedy. He would often refer to them as “my people” (Thomas “RFK's Last Campaign” 3). Interest in the excluded and disempowered entwined with Kennedy’s compassionate life style. So much of what Kennedy did was on instinct. His actions were with love, not for publicity (Brown 1-2). Kennedy was a multisensory learner. What he saw, felt, and heard stirred his desire to act ("Kennedy, Robert Francis" 6).…
Kennedy works to inspire the country, or even the world, to capture the American people. From “old allies” to our nation’s “adversary,” Kennedy addresses that the evil present in this world will eventually lead to our fragile world’s “self destruction.” Through the use of hortative and imperative sentences, Kennedy is able to establish his plans for society, while at the same time encouraging his people to assist him. He is also able to emphasize certain selections in his speech while keeping his audience involved through the use of parallelism. This allows his audience to clearly understand the main purpose of his speech, even though his audience might not even realize that he is doing so. Another way Kennedy was able to appeal to his audience was through the usage of sentences that varied greatly in length. This contrast in length demonstrates how someone would actually talk rather than how someone would read a script. In this way, Kennedy made it seem as though he was speaking from his heart when delivering his speech. This pattern of syntax gave Kennedy the advantage of keeping his audience in tune and involved while he delivered his address.…
