How is this a persuasive speech?

9/11 speech by President George W Bush , Address to the Nation September 11th 2001.

I have chosen to do an essay on the 9/11 speech by George W Bush. I have chosen this speech because it has a lot of persuasive techniques and they seem more interesting to write about. The reason why there are a lot of techniques in this speech is because George W Bush wanted to make it clear that nothing can change the way they feel about their country. The techniques that have been used in this speech are: the rule of three, emotive language, personal pronouns, statistics, positivity and there are a few quotes.
I think the reason there is the rule of three in the speech is to make the speech seem more effective and to build progression so that tension is created and then built up and then released. They do this to emphasise the point that is trying to be made. An example of the rule of three is “our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom …”
The speech also contains emotive language which is a good technique if you want the reader to create emotions and aim to make the reader react in some way and to create a strong emotional response. An example of this is “Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil …”
There is also a part in the speech that portrays positivity, I think it is in the speech to make the people of the United States not seem afraid of what has happened and to make themselves seem strong. I think this is a good thing to put in the speech as it builds up a sort of tension and makes people realise what the United States have been through, I also think it makes people seem more aware and comfortable about what happened and not be afraid. An example of positivity is “America was targeted for attack because we’re the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining. I think the George W Bush spoke those words because he doesn’t want people to think

    PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability.
