After presenting to the audience their first piece the choir moved on to sing “Hakuna Mungu Kama Wewe”. This is a sacred east African worship song that is written to be sung Acapella with SAB parts. The non-syncopated piece in the major mode gave a joyful feeling to the audience with its quick pace. Unlike their first piece the choirs voice seemed like one big sound without any breaks, they were in complete unison.…

Nagra uses different uses of language and techniques to gain attention. In stanza one the word "Daddy" refers to showing how innocent the character is and how it is easier for his wife to get him in control as he is innocent and naive so she can trap him easily. through out the poem Nagra uses phallic imagery as it says "your bananas are plantain" this sexual imagery is shown to create a sense of humor as when we think of bananas it then relates back to phallic imagery like the penis. He also uses sexual imagery again where it says"like we rowing through putney" the word 'putney' refers to the word puddi which is not an so romantic way to put it, he then again does this by purpose just too spice in a sense of humor. his wife is not presented as such a pleasant Indian wife as in many points in the poem she is described as an rebellious type of women who doesn't really go with the stereotype about how Indian women speak to elders with respect as "she egging at my mum" and "den stumble like a drunk making fun of my daddy" the first line shows how she has no respect for her mother in law and how disrespectful she is, due to her husband being naive and innocent maybe that is why she gets away with what she wants. This also shows negative effects towards her husband because if she loves her husband she would no treat her in laws in this way, gives a sign that maybe she is not that stereotypical Indian women you would expect from her. The same with her father in law she treats him in quite ghastly as who would make fun of their in laws. Then comes a point where it is written "above my head high heels tap di ground" When we think of heels we transmit it too someone who is working in an office or someone really posh, so this shows cleverness as office people tend to and are really clever .…

Stories buried under the debris of thousands of nightmares are suppressed under the ones with no authenticity. That's when two 25-year-olds from Jaipur mutually decided to write about everything that is amiss about our country. Made it into a rap, gave it an exciting title, and waited for it to grab the attention of many. 'Holi Hai' satirically steers out everything we’re not proud of and is everything the “Motorcycle Shayaries” hoped it would be.…

A: Okay so what I thought was he goes into this description and there Is no mention of time, cause I went back and reread and this whole thing is about the moment and he is describing everything in such detail. And it end with, “Curled about the house, and fell asleep.” Which can be him and whoever he is with falling asleep then it transitions into “And indeed there will be time.” And it kind of just talks about how the world will move forward and what you don’t like about time happens. I thought of it as a positive because he was almost escaping time.…

Kathak is the one of eight forms of Indian classical dances perform by men and women, originated from northern indian, known as kathakars or storytellers. The styles of dance have its unique character from the rhythmic footwork with rhythms that he or she stomps out barefoot on the floor, accented with many bells worn around the ankles ( and from seeing the guest artist I can say there were more than 100 bells around her ankles making lots of noise to go with the beats of the drum), spectacular spins, and also every dance piece has a story behind it. A traditional kathak performance features a solo dancer on a stage, surrounded on all sides by the audience. The repertoire includes amad ,the dramatic entrance of the dancer on stage. Male dancers perform in Persian costume of wide skirts and round caps, while female dancers wear a traditional Indian garment called a sari. Back in the day women are the one who preserved this traditional dance more than the men.…

In “An Indian Story” by Roger Jack is an example of family solidarity and care giving within a minority family. When Jack was just a young boy, his mother died, then his father remarried and started a new family that made the boy uncomfortable with his living situation. After that, he decided to go living with his late mother’s sister, Aunt Greta. It is an evident that even before he decided to move with Greta, Jack was very close to her when he stated, “I walked to Aunt Greta’s house and asked if I could move in with her since I had already spend so much time with her anyway”(53). This is our first example of the strong ties to extended family in this story. As the story progresses we learn that Greta has sacrificed not only for her nephew but for her father as well.…

West Indian poetry germinated its seed in the eighteenth century. The art form in the beginnings though vibrant, had been nearly impossible to discover. Caribbean poetry was influenced by slavery and the British system having supreme authority over the people of the West Indies. Accustom to the written form, there is also an oral element to West Indian poetry. This can be seen in, traditional folk songs, sankeys, calypsos, hymns, chants, and reggae songs. This analysis deals with the work of two major Caribbean poets, Eric Roach and Martin Carter. Both poets have significantly represented their purposes and mission in and through their work.…

This mentality leads families to treat them as objects who should remain pure and be controlled: women are their fathers' property, and later their husbands'. Parents worry so much about "losing face" in the community that while boys have all the freedom they want, girls are constantly advised not to do anything that would "bring shame". This mentality explains why so many are forced into marriages, or even murdered by their own parents. It leads to mothers excusing away the heinous crimes of their sons by saying: "If these girls roam around openly like this, then the boys will make mistakes."…
