Ever wonder who makes the manuals for your iPod or iPhone? Who makes the drawing in those booklets? Illustrators do. Hello my name is Garrett and I am an illustrator for Apple. I design the pictures inside those instruction booklets for apple products. The pictures that you see in the manuals were drawn and designed by me. I chose to be an illustrator because I love the creativity involved in my job. I love using my imagination and being creative. That’s exactly what illustrators do. They take peoples ideas and put them on paper in the form of a drawing. Everyday there is something new to do, more ideas, more ways to be creative, that’s why I love begin and illustrator its never boring. A normal day for me starts when I arrive at work. When I get to work, I gather with my team and Apple gives us our assignment. Each person on the team has his or her own specific job. I am the one who designs and does all of the artwork. I spend most of the day rest creating images and drawings for the project. I develop ideas, prepare layouts, choose colors and lettering, and review projects. I take the information that Apple gives me and come up with ways to put it on paper. This is why I love being an illustrator because everyday I am using my imagination, which makes my job fun. Every Job has its advantages and disadvantages. Deadlines are one of the biggest disadvantages to being an illustrator. Though I work only 12-15 on a project deadlines make my job very stressful. There are times were you only have a couple hours till you have to turn in your project and you still have a long ways to go. The pressure from deadlines can make being an Illustrator very stressful and overwhelming. However, there is a good side to deadlines. Sometimes I am able to finish an assignment weeks or even a month before the deadline and I get the rest of the time to spend time with my family or do the things that I enjoy. Deadlines aren't the
