It premiered on December 18, 2012, at the SM Mall of Asia's SMX Convention Center.
El Presidente is a movie showing the meanness of the Spaniards to the Filipino people. This movie exposed how Filipino’s indicated their nationalism and their bravery to show their refusal to the Spanish colonizer. Many Filipino’s established a group which will fight against the Spanish colonizers.
In 1896 Philippines experienced carnage, cruelty and vindictiveness from the hands of the Spanish military and each member of catholic religious group to its constituents. Emilio Aguinaldo who happens to be the mayor of Cavite feels so unable to control the situation and he could not aid the Filipino people. Because he feels so powerless he decided to join a covert organization KKK (Kataastaasang Kagalanggalang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan) whose main objective is to establish rebellion that will let the colonizers fall over and for them to be able to proclaim and declare independence against the Spanish colonizers. Andre Bonifacio was the founder of the said secret organization, as government official Aguinaldo was able to systematized different covert army, even an organization which is badly organized and not respectable.
Bonifacio was not able to succeed the rebellion that he had established cause of the mistakes and clumsiness of his military group. Because of this Aguinaldo comes up with the decision establishing a rebellion in his own town that will encourage other Filipinos in other towns and cities to fight against colonizers. He was successful in establishing an impressive group that fought against the colonizers. Bonifacio was in a confused stage and acting as if he does not care about danger and of what is going to happen he lose the trust of his colleagues. The competition and fighting between Aguinaldo and Bonifacio started to take over.
An election was held, Aguinaldo was chosen to be the President over Bonifacio. Bonifacio declared that the decision made by the council was illegaly valid, the council punishment because he remembered the statement of a priest saying that the ending of Bonifacios life will met the failure of the Republic.
The immediate changing of the death punishment was useless and in effective because Bonifacio was already executed by the Spanish military. Because of what happened to Bonifacio, Aguinaldo decided to move out and developed new hide out in a small village near the mountain called Biak na Bato.
Aguinaldo offered an agreement between Spanish colonizers to stop fighting and discuss ways of making peace by means of paying the people who are fighting against Philippine Republic with a large amount of money and put down their arms and to be sent away in Hong Kong and official pardon is to be given to the Filipino soldiers.
During the stay in Hong Kong, the group of ships of the American navy allied with the Filipino and told them to battle against the Spaniards defining that they would not be benefiting from the Philippines what they want is help from the Filipino soldiers to battle against the Spaniards and what they are trying to achieved is not to colonized the Philippines but rather weaken the Spanish military who also battles with the American in Cuba. Aguinaldo travels back to the Philippines and he accepted the proposal of the American naval fleet.
Upon returning back to the Philippines through the help of the Americans, the plans of Aguinaldo succeeded he was able to be victorious; he had achieved all his goals and objectives for the Philippines. During 4th of July we celebrate Fil-Am days as the sign of friendships between America and Philippines.
After the hard works the atrocities that our fellow Filipino experienced under the arms of the Spanish colonizers still Aguinaldo was able declare Philippine Independence. June 12, 1896 the Philippine flag was raised on the balcony of the house of President Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite playing the national anthem (Lupang Hinrang) of the Philippines declaring independence from the arms of the Spanish colonizers. Each of the Filipino’s joyously celebrated that day, the Philippine Independence Day.

El Señor Presidente’s novelty isn’t only questioned due to the already established use of Indigenismo exaggeration. While the magical realism element is new, the dictatorship backdrop isn’t. Assumed to be based on the dictatorship of Manuel Estradas Cabrera, the characters’ fear and despair radiate from a daunting figure that seems all too real. Key elements from the dictator novel, such as the importance of authoritarianism and its emphasis on power, lessen the singularity of El Señor Presidente as a new way of expressing Latin American experiences, (seeing as the genre started with Facundo by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento in 1845),…

The irony of the 1898 Spanish-American war was that Americans fought partly to aid Cubans in the fight for Cuban sovereignty, and the United States ended up colonizing some territories they won from Spain, like the Philippines. Despite America’s previous claims of only supporting independence and democracy, the United States became an imperialist power and colonized the Philippines (Introduction to the Spanish-American war and the Filipino insurgency in the assignment sheet). This led to a Filipino insurgency, led by discontent Filipinos, who fought American troops through guerrilla warfare (Conlin 545). Conlin states that many Americans died fighting against a “popular revolution” in the Philippines for independence (Conlin 545). Years ago, Americans were fighting for Cuban independence. During the Filipino insurgency, the United States fought to suppress anger among the Filipinos against American colonization of the Philippines. Americans justified colonizing the Philippines by arguing that Anglo-Saxons were superior to the Filipinos, Filipinos were incapable of sustaining a sovereignty, and a colony in the Philippines would benefit the United States economically.…

The Brigandage Act of 1902 is a law that prohibits the Filipinos to establish or create nationalist movements or organizations. Any form of revolt against the Americans is considered thieves work or banditry. This law was implemented with the aid of the Commission of the Philippines during the conquest of America. It was originally meant to officially put an end to the Philippine-American War, along with the anti-sedition law, thus Filipinos who continued to resist American supremacy for whatever reason would be called insurrectos and bandoleros subject to arrest, death by hanging, and forever maligned in Philippine history books as common criminals. The bandoleros existed after the fall of the First Philippine Republic. After the capture of Emilio Aguinaldo by the Americans, the ruling governmental body collapsed, and the war between the Filipinos and the Americans came to a halt. The peace that existed was because of the forceful surrender of Emilio Aguinaldo to the Americans that also decimated the morale of the Filipinos and their fighting force, so Filipinos still did not attain the independence they have fought for. Sometime in 1901-1902, the Brigandage Law was implemented. In the shadows, Macario Leon Saka carried on the radicals of the fallen Republic through the establishment of the Tagalog Republic. Sakay and the members of the Tagalog Republic had been branded as bandits or “bandoleros” conspiring against Americans. His final objective in his intrigue was to achieve the independence from the USA’s colonial rule. This group of people, these “bandoleros” were a spark of hope for the Filipinos that we are to be liberated from the colonial grasp of the American rule.…
