Thesis: Carl Lee Haley should be found not guilty because he had Christian morals, he was insane, and his family was the victim in this society. I. What happened to Carl Lee’s daughter was morally disturbing. A. The men raped his daughter and left her for dead.

B. They felt as if they had the right to hurt his daughter. II. He was insane.
A. He was pushed to the point of rage.
B. He was not thinking clearly.
III. His family was the victim in this society.
A. He lived in a racially charged town.
B. He did not meet the social and financial status.

Carl Lee Hailey should be found not guilty because he had Christian morals, he was insane, and he was a victim in this society. What happened to his family was a moral injustice on behalf of the people in this society. The two men treated his little girl as if she were nothing. They took Mr. Hailey’s daughter and discarded her as if she were a piece of trash. Carl Lee and his family went through something no family should ever have to go through. He was a poor, black man, and was looked down upon because of his social status.

What happened to Carl Lee Hailey’s daughter was morally disturbing. My morals are based on Christian values and the fact that we are a created by one God. The bible speaks of the innocence of our children. Jesus said to the disciples, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. (Matthew 18:3). According to The Christian Science Monitor, the innocence of children has to be loved and defended. Each of us can contribute to preserving the innocence of children by seeing them as God created them and refusing to believe that their innocence can be lost (Defending the Innocence of Children).
