Personal Narrative on Importance of Family
PrinceYrral Spann II
Professor Burchard ENG 1510 19 May 2015 Narrative Draft 1 Narrative Draft 1

Hot Michigan summers, no school, pool in the backyard, basketball court in the house, all these things meant company. Every summer for the as long as I can remember all of my family, friends, and strangers basically stayed at our home as if it was a hotel. My family has always been the sharing type, and everyone sees our home as the vacation house. My cousins are usually the ones over and we all hang out and do everything together over the summers. This particular summer I’d say more than half of my cousins

were at my house. I remember it like it was yesterday, everyone by the pool, laughter, loudness, music, playing. The phone rings and the ambiance changed. The phone had ringed and no one really was concerned about it. My younger sister answered it and it was my aunt. She asked to speak to my father. They talked and a few minutes later my father called everyone into the house. Wet kids coming out the pool into the living room, basketball games being stopped, everyone who was on the property was in one room. My dad isn't one that shows a lot of emotions so not one person could really tell what he was going to say. Maybe we were going to go to the park, or he was going to take all to lunch, or he might even let us all go to the mall.
Many different thoughts were going through everyone's heads. Personally I had no clue was he was going to say. Everyone’s still full of energy and happy so there’s a lot of talking and chatter going around the room and my father ask for silence and everyone quickly shuts down. “Granny passed away a few minutes ago” he says. Suddenly you could hear several different emotions spread across the room.
