ART DECO: Art deco is a type of art that grew in the 1920’s with a revival in the 1960’s. Art Deco was primarily an elegant design style dominant in decorative art, fashion, jewelry, textiles, furniture design, interior decoration, and architecture. It flourished in the united states and Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. The origin of art deco began two decades earlier in Paris. The decorative arts society inspired the name art deco but the term did not become famous until the publication of art deco of the 20’s and the 30’s by Bevis hillier in 1968. Currently many examples of art deco exist however two major icons that represent art deco would be the New York Chrysler building and radio city music hall. Also art deco is a decorative style that is essentially an extension of the French art nouveau and English aesthetic styles but also includes elements of arts and crafts form.

Historical and cultural factors that influence the design: From the poster it is clear that it is influenced by the infrastructure of old buildings in the 50’s with lights overlapping each other on the roof. Also the artist has used a traditional design of a theater which was built during the early 1950’s.The artist has clearly being influenced by the revolution of theater music and movies and that’s why there is like an old style camera in front of the poster to represent this. Art Deco is defined as a style of decorative art marked chiefly by geometric motifs curvilinear forms, sharply defined outlines often bold colors. And throughout this poster we can see how the artist has used bold colors such as purple and yellow to design this piece. He has also used sharp outlines to make the shape of this building very clear and neat to the audience.

Design element: color: Throughout the poster the artist has used two colors; these include a primary color yellow and a secondary color violet. By the use of these colors the artist has really brought out the shape of the architecture.
