A Little Kindness Goes A Long Way

Have you ever thought about what happens when people are kind, or how it feels to be filled with benevolence to other human beings? Recently I have found myself being very kind to other people and having concern for their feelings. Time flies by too fast to be hateful or rude to other people. We as humans often underestimate the power of kindness and caring, and don’t take into consideration of other peoples feelings. A simple smile or an honest compliment can change somebody's life.
One example of showing kindness or curiosity for somebody elses feelings happened to me at the Country Market, the store i work at. It was about 8:00 p.m. on a tuesday night when I had just finished for the day and was coming home from school and the gym. I stopped at Country Market, and I went inside to get a drink and pay for my gas. The lines for the cash registers were filled on both sides with about 10 customers waiting at each. I was third in line, behind a middle aged man in his 40’s, and finally an elderly man in front of the line was checking out. The elderly man was in his upper 70’s, and he had a handful of groceries. The cashier asked the man if he needed help out, he replied “No thank you I can take this out myself”. The old man was struggling to get his groceries, and I noticed the middle aged man was hesitating to help him, so I set my drinks down and went up to the counter and grabbed his groceries and took them out. Little did I know when I was carrying out the mans groceries the middle aged man saw my act of kindness, and he paid for my drinks and my forty six dollars in gas.

Another example of ways to show kindness and how it can impact other people's lives is just by smiling. The power of smiling is amazing, and it takes little or no effort and does not cost you anything. There is a website called To Write Love On Her Arms. TWLOHA is an anti-suicide non profit organization that aims at random acts of kindness

In Paul Ford’s, “How to Be Polite,” he discusses the lessons he has learned over the years on how to be an undeniably pleasant person. He gives examples from times throughout his life where kindness has come into play. Ford shares experiences from high school, where politeness went unnoticed and, for the most part, unrewarded. However, later in life kindness helped him in the workplace and in social scenes. He also mentions that politeness has helped him look at people in a vulnerable way, that each and every one of them has problems that are unknown to others.…

The act of kindness this student performed was one she does often and without a second thought. Whenever she sees an elderly person in a grocery store that appears to be looking for something or cannot reach an item she assists in any capacity she can. Her father taught this to her as the golden rule, and it is a part of her personality makeup. Her actions could be considered altruism that is selfishness in reverse. An altruistic person, he or she is helpful and concerned even when no benefits are expected in return (Myers, 2010).…

The random act of kindness that I completed this week was buying an old man a coffee in front of me at Starbucks. He ordered a Grande Pike with room. I heard the order and said “I’ll get that miss” and without even hesitating handed over my card to pay for the drink. The older man look at me with a cracked smile and confused kind of look before muttering the words “you didn’t have to do that young man, but thank you” I replied with a smile on my face “no problem Sir”.…

Now a days alot of people are really selfish and self-centered. Few people worry about others, and that is very depressing be\cause everyone should be concerned about other. In the book "To Kill a Mockingbird," when Jem and Scout were getting attacked and Boo wasn't selfish and he went to help them. Boo was concerned for them and for what was wrong with them so he went to protect Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. What Boo did was an act of kindness and unselfishness, that is what we need now a days. Another example is when my mom was sick and instead of letting her clean and struggle, I cleaned the whole house and dropped my little siblings off at daycare for her. I knew that by doing this I helped her rest her body, and she would be proud and…

Whether it was holding the door open for the person behind me or simply telling them to have a nice day, my favorite thing to do has always been to make people smile. In elementary school, more often than not, I assumed the role of class helper. This entailed staying after class parties to help clean up messes or spending extra time at recess to make sure all of the kickballs were in their specific spots. As I've grown up, it only makes sense that my love for helping people in any shape or form has translated into a love for volunteering. Whether it is tutoring elementary school children or helping run a clothing drive, the numerous altruistic tendencies that have been instilled in me through volunteer work will forever shape who I am as a…

Sometimes just seeing other people doing something kind or helpful makes us more willing to help others. People setting good examples of service can inspire for others to help, someone just has to break the ice..One of the key reasons people often fail to take action when help is needed is that they do not notice what is happening until it is too late. It may also be hard to know when someone actually needs help. Another tip to help with this is to have some kind of training of CPR or the Abdominal Thrust by taking first aid classes.
