A Break Down of the Cell
Cell Analogy

A Nucleus is like the city hall. The Nucleus directs the activities of all organelles. The City hall controls all activity that occurs in the city.

The mitochondria are like the power plants. The mitochondrion converts chemical energy into energy for the cell. The power plants provide energy to all parts of the city.

The vacuole is like the land fill. The vacuole stores materials containing water, food, or waste. The land fill stores harmful waste products safely.

The Golgi apparatus is like the post office. The Golgi apparatus is to modify, sort, and package proteins and other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum for storage in the cell. The post office labels packages and ship goods.

The ribosomes are like workers in a factory. The ribosomes are small particles found throughout the cytoplasm and produce protein by following coded instructions that come from the nucleus. The workers in the factory are told by their boss on what to make.

A chloroplast is like solar panels. Chloroplasts capture the suns energy and convert that into energy for the cell. Solar panels capture the suns energy and turn it into energy for electricity or heating.

The cell wall is like a building. The cell wall provides support and protection for the cell. A building protects the inside from harsh elements and allows materials to enter through certain entrances or exits.

The Cytoplasm is like jello. The cytoplasm is what holds all the organelles together. The jello holds all the fruit that’s

cytoplasm is a homogeneous, which generally clear jelly-like material that fills cells . The cytoplasm consists of cytosol and the cellular organelles , except the nucleus. The cytoplasm offers support for the cell. It allows the cells organelles to freely move throughout the cell. Movement is sped up in the fluid of the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm can also act as a medium for transport within the cell.…

Nucleolus is one of the most essential elements of the nucleus. It is a tiny spherical shape at the innermost portion of the cell nucleus, non-membranous, minute organelles that is composed of protein and RNA and associated with the formation of ribosomes (cell structures where protein synthesis takes place) and ribosomal RNA (ribonucleic acid) and the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). The main function of nucleolus is the production and assembling of subunits which together form the cell organelle called ribosomes. The ribosomes are a site for proteins synthesis; which is why the nucleolus plays an indirect but crucial role in the synthesis of protein. The nucleolus carries out 50% of the total production of RNA which takes place in cells. This functionality is attributed to hundreds of r-genes present in the nucleolus.…

Rough endoplasmic reticulum- Rough endoplasmic reticulum is very important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins. Some of those proteins might be used in the cell and some are sent out. The ribosomes are attached to the membrane of the ER. As the ribosome builds the amino acid chain, the chain is pushed into the ER. When the protein is complete, the rough ER pinches off a vesicle. That vesicle, a small membrane bubble, can move to the cell membrane or the Golgi apparatus.…

Cytoplasm; Cytoplasm is the gel-like fluid inside the cell. The cytoplasm is about 70% to 90% water and usually colourless. It provides a platform upon which other organelles can operate within the cell; all of the functions for cell expansion, growth and replication are carried out in the cytoplasm of a cell. Cytoplasmic organelles are little organs that are postponed in the cytoplasm of the cell. Each type of organelle has a certain structure and a detailed role in the function of the cell.…
