Define the terms zygote, chromosomes, genes, and DNA, and explain how they are related.
What do you think of when you hear the words zygote, chromosomes, genes and deoxyribonucleic acid also known as DNA? Those words all are contribute of the genetic make-up of your life. Zygote, chromosomes, genes and DNA are all related. They are extremely important in life and we need those to even be here today. Without those we are nothing.
The zygote is a single cell formed at conception. The zygote contains the unique set of genetic instructions inherited from your biological parents. A zygote is a fertilized egg cell. Zygote comes from the bonding of a female gamete which is egg and a male gamete, sperm. The zygote is the first stage of development in genetic components of an organism. The zygote contains all the essential factors for the development. The zygote has genes from both parents. Zygotes begin as two haploid cells and combine to form the single diploid cell.
We get our genetic make-up from your biological parents in chemical structures of chromosomes which are found in the nucleus. According to Discovering Psychology, chromosomes are “Like, threadlike structure composed of twisted parallel strands of DNA.” They are represented with an X and Y. Humans have forty-six chromosomes, twenty-three from each parent. Twenty-two of the twenty-three pairs are known as autosomes. Autosomes look the same in both male and female. The twenty-third pair is known as the sex chromosomes. They give the gender of the child. If you have a female the twenty-third chromosome would have two copies of the X chromosome, while the males have one X and one Y chromosome. Each chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of DNA. When we need chromosomes to keep DNA tightly wrapped together so DNA could fit inside cells. They are also important in cell division. For organism to grow and function properly the cell constantly divide to replace old or worn out cell and chromosome

    Variation plays a vital role in human survival. Variation occurs in the process of meiosis. Meiosis is the process in which human sex cells, called gametes, are produced. Meiosis starts with a parent cell, called a diploid, replicating its DNA. After the DNA is replicated, the chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell where each pair touches each other and genetic information from the alleles are shuffled and exchanged, a process called crossing-over.
