During the period of Classical orchestras a range of 30 to 60 instruments were divided into four sections. The four sections were made up of woodwinds, strings, brass, and percussion. Continuing differences come with classical using less of an ornamental style while being secular and cerebral. This was brought on by composers using individual tones from each instrument giving each piece variety with rapid tone changes. Similar to the Baroque music style strings were the primary instruments of classical music making up the melody sound. Classical music is often viewed and characterized by the balance and formal structures within the music. When comparing music, classical music is viewed more dramatically. Classical music was often performed in front of people of wealth or royalty thus composers often wrote their music with that in mind. Classical music showed a wide range in emotions that were delivered under control of the…
Baroque music tends to be for small chamber orchestras and is usually very intricate, with many layers. Classical music tends to be for larger orchestras and for showing off virtuoso talents or entertainment rather than for praising God or presenting solemn tunes to kings, as much Baroque music was.…
History of music from 1650 to 1800 can be described by three major periods, the middle Baroque, the late Baroque / early Classical, and Classical eras. The middle Baroque can be described as a time of developing and standardizing musical forms, styles, and conventions, and then obeying those conventions in the creation of new music. The second era found the undoing of these conventions in two important areas, prompting the end of the Baroque and beginning of the Classical era. The final era describes a period of newer conventions, built from the changes presented to Baroque music by its creators. This evolution can best be understood by careful investigation of musical conventions through these three periods.…

This classification arguably stemmed from the traditional Cartesian mind/body split and the tendency to for jazz to fall on the devalued side due to it's physicality and sensuality. Categorizing jazz as a form of classical music would seemingly elevate it's aesthetic value by distinguishing it as cultural and appreciated by the mind. This innocent attempt to make jazz seem "on par" with classical music does have its dangers, though. For one, it assumes that classical music is the standard by which all music should be judged, which is clearly not true. Classical music was, for the most part, merely a European phenomenon, whereas jazz, as argued above, involved so much more. In addition, classical music should not be seen as the pinnacle of musical technical greatness either. Jazz, for example, incorporates improvisation, an aspect of music almost completely absent in classical music; jazz musicians also developed a host of new musical skills to suit their styles. Wynton Marsalis, himself a player of classical music in his earlier days states flatly that "classical music is not as difficult as jazz." To label jazz as "classical" is arguably a belittling insult disguised as a…
Today's music varies from classic, hip hop, R&B, pop, indie, country, etc. During the 1700’s there was mostly classical and baroque music, there was no diversity in music. People weren't able to access music whenever they wanted, they needed a vinyl player, or buy tickets to the theatre, or on the radio. With our current advanced technology we can access music anywhere and anytime. “Today more sophisticated distinctions and viewpoints pervade a nearly chaotic explosion of research into the manner in which all kinds of music, from the earliest notated pieces of chant to the works of the Romantic composers, should be performed.” “The Performance of Early Music in America.”…
Music. Fascinating both by it's diverse individual styles and the inevitable fusion of different genres which in turn have created other completely new and unique styles of music. Classical music is a perfect example. The earliest forms of classical music were composed in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries and displayed a very complicated and sophisticated form of writing incorporating a wide range of instruments and used the principle of multi instrumentation which achieved a very full symphonic sound which in turn led to the creation of specially designed halls to facilitate the sound. The origins of the music were also diverse, many compositions having been written for the stage, composers such as Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky' who…
Also, in the Western culture still exist this kind of thinking about music. This also is part of the things that make us thinking about the classical music. In this chapter also mention about what it will lead us think music is an object. “Something in time but not of time”, what it mean is music actually is an art of time. Music is not cause by time but it still in time. Even thought is that many people said that Western Classical music is now in a crisis. We can look for the statistic about the number of classical music make now a day. It is less and less and less by compare with the pop music. In the early 20th century, new music (like pop music) only few of people accept but the avant-garde movement raise make to people began to accept new form of art and this against the traditional one. Young people are encouraged to create now form of art and cause people have another thinking of…
Some people describe classical music as archaic, lackluster, and aloof, but your brain would disagree. Many scientific journals have published research that has shown there are multiple benefits for your brain. “A number of academic studies recently zeroed in on classical music, showing that listening benefits the brain, sleep patterns, the immune system and stress levels — all helpful when facing those all-important end-of-semester tests.” (Engel) Three significant advantages of listening to classical music include creativity, mental health, and study proficiency.…
Rock music of today has turned to shit because of MTV's TRL, the billboards, and Brittney Spears's record sales have something to do with the size of her breasts. Rock music from the 70's through today will be remembered for years, but it lacks the true timelessness of classical music. Classical music has beautiful harmonies that be appreciated for thousands of years. Modern rock is a shallow reflection of the time, showing lack of development due to sell out bands making music for money and not to make music. Classical also has the advantage of being highly structured music. Having a distinct structure and showing development from beginning to end helps make a song timeless. Also the depth and complexity of writing for tens or even hundreds of instruments will make classical music appreciated by people for endless expanse time.…
