“Yen-shen” and “Sootface’

The stories yen-shen and sootface is a different version Cinderella form different places I the world. The stories are alike but are different in many ways. Like so yen-shen is was an orphan and lost her mother and father. She had a mean step mother and her only friend is a fish. In the story Sootface lost her mother and had mean older sisters. In both stories the two both faced challenges, but overcome the challenges then goodness came in store.

The story yeh-shen lives her step-mother because of the death her parents. Yeh-shen was given the worst job she was very lonely and the only friend she had was a fish that lived in a pond. Yeh-shen had little food but still provide food and love for the fish. One day her evil step-mother tricked and killed her fish only thing left was his magical bone. Yeh-shen was torn in the inside when she found out and put the bones the in a special place soon learned about the magic of the bones. Since she was the youngest did all the work and hers sister would lazy and not help her at all. They would burn her long hair to short hair and burned her skin because of ashes being burned in to her face, poor sootface just had to live with her evil sisters lying to father that she was being clumsy then a mighty warrior with the power to make himself invisible decides to marry. Only a woman with a kind and honest heart could see him, and be his bride. Sootface sets off never looking back. When she arrived she could see the warrior and they prepared for the wedding his sister brushed her hair with a magic comb that turned her short hair to long hair. Washed her skin in water that identify the beauty inside her. Her courage and good nature bring her the husband she has longed

The effect had been so strong that even the village headman who, for all his harshness, couldn’t hold back the years pouring from his eyes. When Luo was sick with malaria, the little Seamstress brings four sorceresses to help Luo recover. To keep the sorceresses awake and watching over Luo the narrator recounts ‘The Little Flower Seller’. When the narrator told the story, the sorceresses weren’t too engaged and did not show any sign of influence. Luo wakes up in time to say the final line ‘The saying goes that a sincere heart can make a stone blossom. So tell me, was the flower girl’s heart lacking in sincerity?’ The sorceresses could no longer hold back the tears and started crying.
