When you discover that your character is being attacked online, or in another situation it can make you feel panicked, and scared. There are some things you can do to help remain calm and levelheaded enough to deal with the situation properly.

Don’t Panic
It is difficult to remain calm when you are being attacked but it is important that you try in order to deal with the situation effectively. Step away from the attack. Take some time to just breathe. Don’t respond right away, you’re probably angry, panicked, and everything you say will show this. If you say whatever your kneed-jerk reaction may be, you could end up fuelling the fire.

Taking the time to write down every aspect of the attacker’s perspective is important. It will allow you to take some time to remove yourself from the situation and see it as an outsider might. Then you can see if there may be some truth to the accusations. You will want to determine if the event actually took place, and how you could resolve anything you may be at fault for.

Check their demands
If your attacker is upset they may have outlined ways in they want you to rectify the situation. Are they reasonable given the circumstance? If you made some mistake, and a simple apology will do, then you should definitely consider it.

Check their influence
You will want to see how much influence your attacker has. Are the comments they’ve made likely to be seen by a wide audience? Have they spread information about you on several platforms? You will want to see what kind of damage control you will need.
