Worst Day Of My Life
It was quite a gloomy day to be walking, but here I was walking home. Today was not the best day of my life. I know for sure that today is the worse day of my life, and there is no way that any other day can be worse. Yesterday my parents told me that I was a huge disappointment and they wanted me to go off into the world unprepared and die. Then today I had to face a horrible person. I was already extremely depressed and suicidal, yet I did not want to tell anyone around me. For some reason, I decided to go online and make a new friend. It was successful. Not only did we have a bunch of things in common, but I was able to talk to her about my problems. My life became so much better after I got to meet and talk to her. For example, an article Newsela stated, "Young adults with serious mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder can also find social support via social media."(3) Mental health issues have always been a problem and usually, people would spend thousands upon thousands to try and solve their problems in which they most likely cannot afford. Then, there are social networks coming in not only are they able to provide help for those who are mentally ill, but these services are also free of charge. To explain, the same article on Newsela has also reported that a researcher by the name of John Naslund has said he has found that most comments involving mental health are positive, and people can find the right support to cope with their symptoms on social websites.(3)This is very important because people are becoming more aware of others around them, and at the same time, they are learning on how to help others cope with their …show more content…
For instance, an Improvementpill video on YouTube.com said it loud and clear; online communication is lowering their user's self-esteem. This seems correct, right? Because there is so much cyberbullying so self-esteem has to lower. However, an article on Newsela tore this apart. They said that academics and therapists have found that social media can boost self-esteem and provides emotional support, but journalists and parents are not giving these benefits any sort of attention.(2) Another idea that many people have is that online media is extremely dangerous for your future. According to MySecureCyberspace on YouTube.com they said 69% workplaces have rejected a candidate because of their posts and 8% have actually fired someone. People hate looking for jobs especially now when jobs are scarce, so it would be terrible if you did not get that job all because of that one post on Facebook. Although people throw around these facts and percentages they do not realize that they most likely just carelessly post these offensive things anyways, so these jobs are making us more careful about what we post. At the same time, you are saving yourself from hate and criticism towards you from other users as well, and that saves a lot of

Though an extremely new medium, social media has seemed to completely alter the way Americans think, especially among the Millennial generation. It is another perfect example of how our lack of sense and reason has transformed something that was designed to increase our social capabilities into a way to rant, boast, and bully. Instead of using social media to communicate and connect positively, our society has used it to create countless issues and distractions that only deter and detract from developing our social…

It is difficult to say that social media is positive when it allows such things as bulling to occur. Rose mentions reading positive articles about different experiences where Facebook and other websites have came in handy to bring forth positive changes. It is easy to say, that for every article that Rose reads about the favorable efforts these websites can bring, that he will also be able to discover articles that state that the same websites have lead to teenage suicide and body issues. Even the good cannot out weigh the bad. In 2011 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services conducted a Risk Behavior Surveillance Survey that stated 16.2% of kids had been bullied online…

Once Facebook was created it opened up people’s minds in different ways to see what’s going around daily. The pros of Facebook are endless to the users. To illustrate a husband sends a wife flowers, she posts a picture of her bouquet on her Facebook account with the caption, I have the best husband ever. Later that same day she gets home and the husband has forgotten to take the trash out. The wife is very unhappy with her lazy, good for nothing husband. Social media may be a source of education to adolescents but as good comes with bad, so comes the negative psychological effects of social media. As its benefits, social media helps shy teens come out of their shells by expressing themselves better and by being more outgoing. It also helps making teenagers virtually empathetic. Like for example if someone posts a status `saying, ‘I had the worst day of my life!’, and you post a comment saying, “Call me if you need anything!”, you have just expressed virtual empathy and studies prove that most teenagers are capable of making use of this empathy in real life too.…
