Workplace Observation Report
For my service hours, I focused on my issue on the treatment of the animal and volunteered at Bunny Bunch in Orange County. During my time there, I helped around with Carolina, the person in change, doing any task need. Some examples are bagging hay, sweeping the cages for bunny dropping and hay, filling up water bowls, and stocking inventory. One day during Sunday, it was happy hour, so over 20 bunnies were brought into the bunny shelter to interact with each other. All I did was to make sure the bunnies behave, moving some away with a broomstick, and in the end, it was fun. This discreet shelter was taking care of bunnies but there were a lot of bunnies that still do not have a home. By helping this shelter, they were able to keep them away …show more content…
Apart from the heavy lifting, I was allowed to take care of animals and learn about them. It is an interesting experience seeing 20 bunnies all together in a pen and it was fun to watch over them. I had done other community service in the past where I would just pick up trash or watch over children. It was tedious work. I am not inclined to work that is repetitive nor uninteresting as it is not as exciting. Working in a bunny shelter allowed me to help in a variety if actions and at a time, even teaches me something informative. I find that it is what community service should have, something that impacts the helper in a positive manner. For other future service hours, I would ideally do something that involves a skill I have and I am good in such as something which would involve my artistic skills or scientific knowledge. One example would be teaching children to draw and paint at an after school program. Another is a service project that anyone can do which would be taking care of the wildlife and greenery in the urban city. This would require my knowledge on ecology. This would also be attracting to me because I am interested in plants and taking care of them. My last example would be washing graffiti from the walls of Fountain Valley. I had found out that our city has a goal of getting rid of graffiti in 3 days and they apparently spend much money on getting rid of them. If I and a group of people were to go out and wash the graffiti away, it would help the city council deficit budget and in turn, help the city

Volunteering for service hours changed my outlook on life. I worked with the Hydrocephalus Association in both eleventh and twelfth grade. The Hydrocephalus Association focuses on three things community, clarity, and cure. Hydrocephalus is a condition defined by an abnormal, excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) within the cavities of the brain. Some people with this condition can live a normal life being unnoticeable while other have difficulties. The association works on awareness to find a cure, clarity in helping families further understand the condition, and a community which will always be supportive. Service hours can sometimes be a hassle but once I started volunteering with that association it became fun because I was…

For my service this year, I was involved with Applecross Opal Nursing Home. Opal age care was a great help to me in opening my eyes to the desperate need for an extra pair of hands and the importance of nursing homes. Not only to the individual admitted in, but also to their families and friends. As I would arrive at 12.00 every time, I would go straight into lending a hand with lunch. Handing out the meals, packing away, cleaning up and keeping an eye on a few of the residents was my first job done. Then I would wonder through the compound talking to the residents, playing and colouring in with them and I would gather and assist them to and from their rooms. With all these jobs, you had to keep a look out for and take extra care with some of the more dependant residents.…

Since middle school, I have been involved in numerous local beach and river cleanup events. In Nature Academy I was able to design my own community service project. During 7th grade, I banded together with a few fellow classmates and we decided to clean up the streets of Felton one staple at a time. The state of the poles there were horrible; covered in the metal pieces from prior flyers posted there. After several weeks and hours, we had defeated the evil staples. In 8th grade, I had done some more community service on a smaller scale. By helping out in the community garden at school, I had helped the crops grow, that were then disbursed to families in need of fresh…

I volunteered at Texas Humane Heroes, a local animal welfare organization that gives a homeless dog or cat a chance of finding home. It is a nonprofit organization that benefits from the involvement of volunteers. This was a very unique experience because I got to work with a lot of different volunteers and staff members. There were different volunteering opportunities from foster volunteering to helping out around the place. I helped around the place with other volunteers. We cleaned the dog and cat cages and washed their bowls. It wasn’t fun to pick up their waste, but we got to play with the puppies and the kittens. We also had to greet customers and inform them about the cats and the dogs that they had up there. In the afternoon, we had to walk the dogs. So many volunteers and I, took the dogs out.…

Overall, community service is paying back to people and animals that are in need. That is why it is necessary for the people that are able to participate do. Not only should people do it because they have to, they should want to. I have learned this personally through my community service experiences. By participating in community service it has allowed me to change as a person and look at life differently. In the beginning I was not enthusiastic about volunteering, but afterwards it made me feel good about myself. There are many benefits of volunteering like, doing helpful things of your interest, interacting with family and friends, and receiving more knowledge about things you didn’t know. There are many aspects of community service that are not blatantly shown.…

Think back to when you were a kid and you waited anxiously for the whole school year to be over with so you could do that one special thing. For my friends and I it was going to the big, red bricked church down the road and getting free sack lunches. The older I got the roles had been switched, from receiving the lunches, to providing the lunches for the anxiously waiting kids. Community service changes the life of you, and also the lives of others.…

Through this organization, I was given the opportunity to lead by way of volunteerism and school involvement, participating in over twenty-five hours of community service. I was able to work with organizations like Feed the Children, packaging and loading boxes with supplies for Sandy Hurricane Relief workers, as well as Kaboom, NIKE, and the Absentee Shawnee Tribe in a community playground build for Little Axe youth. I also worked to pick up trash around my neighborhood on two occasions, completing a total of ten hours of community service. At school I emptied recycle boxes of teachers at least once every two weeks and worked in NHS sponsored events like our annual Pi…

When I started out I really wanted to volunteer at the local school but unfortunately that did not plan out. I always think that everything happens for a reason and working a feed my starving children really made me feel like i was making a difference even when I was doing the small jobs. Feed my starving children is a nonprofit faith based organization that is devoted to feeding the hungry in different countries all around the world. Over the stations they have the names of the places that the food goes to. I did two 5 hour shifts just because it was something I actually had fun with and felt like I could keep going. Something I found really interesting when talking to the workers there was that when they drop the food off they have to be…

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to recognize one’s own emotions and those of others and to analyze these emotions to guide one’s personal thinking and actions. Previous research indicates that people are more effective at their jobs when they have a good understanding of emotions. EI is divided into five categories; self-awareness, self-management, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills. Understanding one’s own EI provides insight into one’s management abilities including: leadership, individual performance, group performance, interpersonal/social exchange, managing change, and conducting performance evaluations (“Emotions and emotional intelligence“, 1996). This papers focus is the cumulative analysis of my own EI (also known as social intelligence) and the interactions that may occur in my University of Phoenix team.…
