In April 1888, Fredrick Douglass gave a speech on women' suffrage to the International Council of Women in Washington D.C. In this speech Douglass mentions how women are not granted their rights and how it is a mistake. Even though women have got the right to vote their is still problems for women today in 2015. In a CNN article it says "Today, one in three Americans lives at or below the poverty line, and almost 70% are women and children. That's 42 million women inching along poverty's tightrope. The number of working poor struggling to lift themselves into the middle class is steadily increasing, with the worst poverty rates falling on black and Latina women." One frigid January morning, hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children gathered together to participate in one of the most influential protest of all time- The Women's March. This event, which took place in a multiplicity of locations across the globe, was subsequently held the day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. A flurry of lively marchers swarmed the streets with swift legs, bedazzled signs, fuchsia hats, and passionate hearts. They longed for equality, change, and tolerance. With every chant, with every cheer, with every clap, and every step, the protesters marched closer to their goal. Once the dust and confetti had settled and the crowds has dispersed, it was realized that a feminist genie hadn't granted these…

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth,"-John F. Kennedy. The king of Great Britain was imposing taxes on us without our consent. He cut off all of our trades with the world, and he has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us. The question is if gaining our independence is a good idea or not? I believe we should allow him to cut all connections with us because that way we can enforce our own laws and grow as a fair country where everyone votes and are all equal. Gaining our independence will take time which we will make it without Britain.…

Oh sixteen. That magical age that we fervently look forward to, imagining the the new found freedoms that are to greet us..The age of going to parties every friday, driving our friends around in a shiny new Toyota Prius, and finally having our parents not breathing down our necks every second. There are so many responsibilities and freedoms that are given when one turns 16, but there is on crucial power that we are not entrusted with. The vote. While many countries around the world have lowered their voting age, Canada remains a country that has not. Teenage suffrage is a controversial issue that has created many a debate throughout the years. Imagine that you trained all your life for that special moment of playing in your first NHL game. At the beginning of your first shift in the game suddenly another player’s stick comes up and strikes you in the eye. This incident ends your career. This could have been prevented if you wore a visor. I think visors should be mandatory in the NHL in order to improve a player’s safety. Statistics have proven players who wear visors in the NHL play less aggressive. There are many incidents involving sticks and pucks going into player’s faces. A recent incident occurred between Philadelphia’s Chris Pronger and Toronto’s Mikhail Grabovski. Furthermore, two years ago a former NHL player Brad May, Gave a speech supporting the use of visors.…

One in four women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime. One in four. Every six days one woman will be killed by her partner, the one she trusts the most. Every six days. Fifteen point four percent of CEO positions are held by women. Eighty-four point six are given to men. For every one dollar a man makes, a woman will make seventy-two cents. Twenty-eight percent less than her male counterpart. Twenty-six percent of MP’s are women. Seventy-four percent are men. Why? Why in a country where women make up fifty point four percent of the population, are women seen as less? Sexism. It is ingrained in our everyday life, it has not faded or diminished or disappeared. We live in a country where a thirteen year old girl cannot walk down the road without being honked at, and a forty-five year old woman cannot walk from her car to her house without being in fear. And yet people tell me there is no…
